Many people mistakenly believe that all pit bulls are vicious killers -- born to fight and kill. They choose to believe that, given the opportunity, these dogs will be eager to enter a fray, happy to draw blood. Meet Sweetie, a 3-year-old pit bull that was brutally attacked by four other dogs. A dog that, despite being brutally ripped apart, never once tried to fight back. According to individuals that witnessed the attack, the other four dogs were completely unscathed. Sweetie literally did nothing to protect herself from the vicious onslaught. Sweetie is a pit bull and Sweetie is a victim. Last night, Rica, a well-known rescuer in the Tuscon, AZ area, received a frantic phone call about Sweetie. She went to Sweetie's home and was astonished to see the young dog covered in blood. Rica rushed the bleeding dog to Valley Animal Hospital where it was discovered that Sweetie's trachea was severed in two places. One rip was clean and could be surgically repaired -- the other would require more extensive surgery.
Before Sweetie was rushed into surgery, Rica bent down and kissed the battered dog on her nose ... Sweetie's resposne? A thumping tail of gratitude.

Good masters, good dogs. Bad masters, nightmares - and pits do need masters to show them how to behave.
Sad truth is, too many a.. holes own “pit bulls”. I’ve know some wonderful dogs that fall into that general description - all owned and nurtured by good people.
Had one years ago (back before they were popular with drug thugs. Wonderful dog, great with the kids altho did like to chew things up. And your right, they attract the wrong kind of people, sadly.

My six month old bulldog was acting strangely a little while ago: legs stretched out behind him, goofy grin on his face.
So I flip him over—his first boner!
One would hope that they, too, will be euthenized.
There are pit bulls that have been bred for years for aggression, to fight and for status symbols in thug culture. They’ve become unstable and very prone to attack. Being beaten and tormented to enhance that aggression by their “owners” only adds to the threat.
That said, realize just what that dog represents, what a beloved animal it once was, and how American. Victor, the RCA dog. Pit bull. Petey from “The Little Rascals.” Pit bull. Loving, loyal, gentle and smart.
There are lines that have not been tainted by deliberate selection for aggression. So, they’re not all vicious. These are wonderful animals.

I prefer to do actual research instead of relying on the media to feed me my opinions. I spent the better part of a day going through the stories on Google, only to find the same few repeated over and over again on different stations, with slightly different details. Some others were not even really pit bulls, and some were stories about dogs running loose without biting anyone.
I have not come across a single reputable study that proves pit bulls are inherently dangerous. I have found several pseudo-studies from people who have no credibility and something to gain stating things that aren’t true. I have, however, found several studies and spoken with several people anyone would consider experts, and they all agree that this is more a social issue than a dog issue.

The CDC, the AVMA, the HSUS, the AKC, UKC, most veterinarians, most animal behaviorists, and most animal control officers all agree that pit bull attacks are merely a symptom of the problem, which is owner irresponsibility combined with media misrepresentation.
For the record, most estimates have the population of pit bulls at around ten million out of seventy-six million dogs total. Take small dogs out of this equation (small dogs are always going to be the most numerous) and you can see a huge percentage of the medium to large dogs are pit bull-type dogs. Less than a half of a half of a percent of them have taken a life, which means that the pit bulls NOT attacking people are the VAST majority. Judging the entire population based on the actions of a tiny minority is irrational and counterproductive.
There are several thousand dog attacks every day in this country, but for some reason even a pit bull running through a neighborhood without biting anyone will end up on the news instead of, for example, the attack that sent me to the hospital two months ago by non-pit bull-type dogs. No reporters considered my attack newsworthy, but I would be willing to bet that if I had lied and told them the dogs were pit bulls, I would have been offered an interview by several different companies. It’s happened before.

4 against 1 is never good. If I’d have seen it, would have tried to help the 1 against the 4...no matter the breed...
Getting yourself involved in a dog fight even a fight between 2 dogs is never a good idea. I would have helped if I had been there and had a gun.
If I find out what breeds were responsible, I will certainly post it here, but so far I don’t have that info. What I want to know is how they got to the dog. Were the owners letting the dog run loose, or was it chained up in an unfenced yard? I just really think the whole situation seems pretty messed up. If it wasn’t a pack of strays, were they trying to fight the dogs? Too many questions, but I will try to dig something up.
Pits have been targeted. Most people don’t realize that GSD’s, Rotties, and dobermans kill more people every year than pits. In 99% of all dog attack cases, the aggression is brought on by the owners, not the dogs. The owners neglect, abuse or train the dogs to be aggressive.
Sadly, the pitbull has taken on the role of the gun. It’s the guns fault. No mention of the person that warped the dog or pulled the trigger.
The dogs pay the price, the people that did it to them go out and buy another dog to treat the same way.
Pitbulls were demonized by the media and became the “dog of choice” by the criminal element. Now, the entire breed is taking the rap for it.
Yes, I was thinking gun or baseball bat. I could not have stood by and just watched....even if I got mauled myself...I wonder what a strong stream of water from a hose would help.
Hairy bit me on the thumb. He immediately apologized for it and followed me around and rolled over on his back every time I stopped. He felt really bad about it.
I made it bleed and cleaned it well and it seemed to heal up without infection but 2 weeks later I awoke to a throbbing pain and a red swollen thumb. 7 days of antibiotics later and it is finally well. I am certainly never going to interfere with a dog fight when they aren't even my dogs.
Maybe I will give the idea another thought...:O)
I’ll never forget the episode of the “Dog Whisperer” called “Chihuahuas From Hell”. It contained a lovely scene of a vicious chihuahua chasing a terrified fully grown pit bull down a country lane. (The pit bull was one of 40 pits being housed at a pit rescue center; the chi was there as the owner’s pet.) It’s more the way a dog is raised than its breed , though some breeds have a more powerful bite because of what they were originally bred for.
She was jogging with her owners when the pack appeared and attacked.
