(NECN/News 8: Austin, TX) - A final vote on what will be included Texas elementary school history books for the next decade has finally been approved by the state board of education.

Three long days of debate and almost two years of crafting new curriculum standards for social studies was passed.

With the adoption of the new standards the new materials could be in classrooms starting in 2013.

But the state legislature has to first appropriate money for that to move forward.

News 8 Austin's Karina Kling has more.

Libs are upset because they say their is a requirement that books use BO's full name. What's wrong with that?

Libs bemoaned the fact that American History texts didn’t emphasize slavery and civil rights, while de-emphasizing the constitution.

What really got the libs in an uproar is when the committee decided to again include Thomas Jefferson in the historic lineup.

Unforgiveable! /sarc

Just shows how insane one size fits all government prescriptions are. We are not unified. No matter what prescriptions the bureaucrats impose someone is going to be enraged. More and more enraged until......

Last year the official National Archives published position stating that the Civil War was over State’s Rights was removed, likely because it ran counter to what is usually taught in schools, that it was about freeing the slaves. From Alexander Hamilton to present day, the Central Federal Control vs States Rights issue has been a hot topic. With Marx that topic has gained philosophic footing.

ANOTHER REASON TO HOMESCHOOL

This ping list is for the “other” articles of interest to homeschoolers about education and public school. This can occasionally be a fairly high volume list. Articles pinged to the Another Reason to Homeschool List will be given the keyword of ARTH. (If I remember. If I forget, please feel free to add it yourself)

The main Homeschool Ping List handles the homeschool-specific articles. I hold both the Homeschool Ping List and the Another Reason to Homeschool Ping list. Please freepmail me to let me know if you would like to be added to or removed from either list, or both.

You "get it"! There is only **one** thing that government schools are good at. They make groups of citizens furious with each other.

Fundamentally, time and space is limited. Choices must be made as to what to include and what to exclude. Those choices can never be religiously, politically, and culturally neutral. The government will establish the non-neutral worldview of the political bullies and trashes that of the politically weak.

The real insult is that the government then uses the threat of police force to make citizens pay for that non-neutral religious, policital, and cultural worldview.

Government schools can not and never will be "fixed" because at their core they are a First Amendment and freedom of conscience abomination!

FYI, I caught the American Library Association president Camile Alire in an apparent plagiarism incident regarding this matter, and I exposed the ALA further for other reasons, such as requiring "accuracy" in the Texas school books but opposing "accuracy" in Florida school books, depending on the ALA's view of the politics of the situation. Another ALA double standard.

Our local paper carried an article on this subject over the weekend as a state assemblymen has a bill to reject Texas approved textbooks for California. One of his reasons is that Texas has dropped the word "Democratic" when referring to our system of government and replaced it with "Constitutional Republic".

This was deemed to be a subtle method used by Texas to raise the statue of "Republicans", while demeaning "democrats".

Another example of double standard hipocracy, projecting onto conservatives their own liberal MO. Good work!

And these people call themselves “educators”? I thought that implied “education”. Every intelligent person knows that we are a “Constitutional Republic”. Democracy died with the Athenians.

Every intelligent person knows that we are a “Constitutional Republic”.

Judging from the leaders of the Democrat Party that party much eliminates all of them.
