Milwaukee residents have another choice when they want to party, and it's not one you go to -- it comes to you, courtesy of pedal power, observers say.
Called the Milwaukee Pedal Tavern, the 16-person bicycle-powered celebration has been seen at pub crawls, graduation parties and bachelor or bachelorette affairs, the Milwaukee Journal Sentinel reported Thursday.
Owned by partners Ryan Lloyd and Derek Collins, it can be rented for about $160 an hour, the newspaper said.
The idea started in Europe, Lloyd said, where it is popular in Germany and the Netherlands.
"We've already had people rent it out for pub crawls, and we're booking for graduation parties at the end of the month," Lloyd said. "We're outpacing where we thought we would be."
Lloyd, who has a degree in finance, and Collins, with a marketing degree, are trying to obtain the last requirement for their business plan -- permission to serve alcohol.
They hope to obtain a limousine license from the city, they say, so customers can bring their own alcohol.
"We really don't want the hassle of selling the beer," Lloyd said.
There’s the future of public transportation.
It gives new meaning to the phrase “he/she fell off the wagon”
I spent about 7 months in Milwaukee and I loved every minute of it.
I stayed at the Residence Inn right on the riverbank and walked to work on Wisconsin Ave — the workplace was a block from the lake. I watched the Art Museum sail fold and unfold every hour or so and grabbed brats from the street vendors for lunch.
Dang, that was a great gig!
If I would have had the pedi-tavern available I would have been SOO there!
You could rent it for a funeral too! lol
Hi Joe, I’m from Milwaukee, but that there is some real swill to try and drink, lol
Water and Wisconsin is the only hot dog guy you need to see. Usinger’s brats, weiners and sausages on the grill. Folks will ignore other stands just feet away to wait 20 deep at lunchtime. You’ll know you’re at the right spot when you see the line.
