Hundreds of children sent home as travellers set up camp in a school's playing field

A group of travellers has set up camp with 30 caravans in a school's playing field, forcing hundreds of children to stay at home.

Education bosses immediately set up an exclusion zone at Smithills School, Bolton, after the extraordinary convoy moved in on Sunday evening.

Around 300 Year 8 pupils have been told to work from home because their classrooms are next to the playing fields and it was feared the travellers' presence could cause disruption to classes.

Police were due to speak to the group last night to inform them that trespass, which is normally a civil offence, is elevated to a criminal offence when it is carried out on a school premises and causes disruption.

This would give the police the power of arrest if the travellers refused to move on.

Sgt John Nicol, of the Bolton West Neighbourhood Policing Team, said: 'We take this very seriously and are taking positive action to ensure the smooth running of the school.'

The police action would override a move by Bolton Council officers who were due to visit the travellers yesterday to give them a direction to leave the land.

The direction gives them 24 hours to leave. If they do not, the council can apply for a summons from magistrates.

The travellers were given notice to leave a local park by Bolton Council after the caravans appeared near the main entrance, off Moss Bank Way, on Monday night.

The travellers' latest move has caused concern among local residents.

One said: 'I saw all the caravans through the trees when I do not understand it. The school always has football and cricket matches on. What are they doing with all those vehicles there?

'I know they come to Moss Bank Park quite often, but not on a school field.'

We used to get them here in Orlando. The only way to handle them is to tell them to “get the f*** off my property,” as loudly, rudely and aggressively as possible.

Travelers, Gypsies, Bible Adherents or ‘Wandering Lost Tribes’; these sojourners, who ever they may be, are one of the symptom of the bigger globalist agenda. As the ‘one world order’ comes closer & closer to fruition, this phenomenon will become more widespread. By living ‘off grid’ they show contempt for the way things have progressed politically.

Ya ain’t seen nothing yet!! Many Freepers may find themselves living a nomadic existence in the years to come.

I guess we have a PC term for gypsies now.

Yes there is, but it's "Roma". Look up "Roma people".

I remember the Terrible Williamsons from St. Petersburg in the 60s-70s. They came through every 3 or 4 years. I think Terriblewilliamsons was one word.

The travellers have a permanent headquarters in North Augusta, SC. They have mansions that are empty and actually live in travel trailers in the backyard. They are notorious for using their children in shoplifting scams.

About 15 years ago, I did extensive research on Travelers in the U.S. and wrote several articles about them. I interviewed cops from all over the U.S., as well as one of the most infamous Irish travelers of all, Wanda Mary Normile, who tried to pull off the rape hoax lawsuit at Walt Disney World in 1992. There are basically two kinds: Scottish Travelers, and Irish Travelers (Wanda Mary was of the Irish group). Both have been in the U.S. for well over 150 years. The Scottish Travlers were known as The Williamsons back in the'70s, I think it was.

Florida is mainly dominated by Irish Travelers. Irish Travelers live in trailers, although there is a permanent settlement in one of the Carolinas, I forget which one (I'd have to look back at some of the stories I wrote).

Scottish Travelers live in luxury apartment complexes, not trailers. They make a hell of a lot more money on their scams, too.

For five years, I lived in a large luxury apartment complex in So Cal where Scottish Travelers lived during the fall and winter. I got to know them relatively well, or at least to know their ways.

Very odd people, very old fashioned, very ostentatiously Christian, and very fascinating.

And the American Travelers men drive around in the best late model pick-up trucks. Even in the English photos here I see very nice trucks

There is one or more South Carolina towns that are all Travelers. Every spring the men get into their nice new trucks and drive to other states doing paving, roofing, handyman rip-offs. The men take their teenage boys. My guess is the women are ripping off the SS Disability and Welfare programs as much as possible. You know that honest work did not build that house in the photo

Well, no, actually -- Gypsies are the swarthy, mysterious, colorful-wagon fortune-telling types. I think of Travelers as Celts -- generally blonds and redheads and brunettes and freckled skin, like a Scot. They're called "Tinkers" in Britain.

Think of living in a mega-extended family with the nosiest in-laws you ever had, and where arranged marriages with first cousins, which repels us now but has been perfectly legit for most of our Western history, just FYI. :^) It always fries me when people are ashamed to admit that their grandparents were first cousins, or some such thing. It was accepcted, honorable practice up until what, about 120 years ago?

Anyway, the Traveler clans are mega extended families, born and bred to con. They settle all together in an area in large luxury apartment complexes. In our place, they took up something like about 25 percent of the units. Their sons never go to school, the girls are educated up to about 8th grade, and they travel from town to town. One traveler-chasing cop said that's why the graveyards are so important to them. You can see lots of Williamson tombstones in certain L.A. graveyards, and the funerals are elaborate in the extreme.

Yeah, and they usually have a legal handicapped parking permit hanging from the rear-view mirror, too!

In the apartment complex, it was bizarre how they obsessed over cleanliness. The girls washed and cleaned the trucks.

But that was 14 to 17 years ago. Things may have changed.

There is a school of thought that the Irish Travelers are descended from the people who lived in Ireland before the Celts invaded.

That's interesting. One person told me about having a Traveler explain to her that stealing was okay for them because they were descended from the clan of the gypsy who stole a nail from the cross of Jesus, and Jesus gave them a right to steal. But that was a Scottish traveler, a high-roller.

I've never understood the basis of Europe's tolerance of "squatters".

Police were due to speak to the group last night to inform them that trespass, which is normally a civil offence, is elevated to a criminal offence when it is carried out on a school premises and causes disruption.

There's the smoking gun.
