'Big Mama' complains parking tickets destroying her eatery
PITTSBURGH TRIBUNE-REVIEW ^ | June 1, 2010 | Jeremy Boren

Big Mama has big problems.

Brenda Franklin says she might shut down Big Mama's House of Southern Cuisine and take her signature fried chicken, ribs, pulled pork and peach cobbler to another city because parking violations have cost her more than $3,000 in fines.

"I'm running around like a chicken with my head cut off, trying to figure out how I'm going to pay my rent," Franklin said. "I've been trying to hold on and maintain. But they've been making it impossible."

Franklin appeared on the CBS "Early Show" in 2008 as part of "Small Businesses, Big Rescues," a series of stories in which the show paired expert mentors with novice entrepreneurs to improve their chances of survival

The Elite don’t care if you want fried chicken — they suggest that you eat cake instead.

That's very true.
But I just saw on another thread that BO is coming to the Burgh.
So maybe the Messiah will talk to Luke and fix Big Mama's parking tickets.
You'd think that would be the least he could do since they named a school after him anat.

He said police used to issue loading permits to park there, but after a neighboring owner copied the permits illegally, authorities ended the practice.

Sure, Zero Tolerance.

The idiots who run Pittsburgh see parking ticket revenue as a way to help pay their bloated city payrolls and pensions. Almost any town I've visited of similar size, $5 to $8 will get you a parking place downtown for the entire day. There is one spot by the incline near Station Square where I can do that near downtown Pittsburgh in exchange for hiking an extra half-mile or so. Everybody else wants $5 or more per hour.

You would think the “global warmist's”, etc. would want MORE parking not less. More parked cars, less “pollution”. You wold think this would apply to cities all over the world.

In fact there should be more FREE parking everywhere. In Paris you used to be able to park on the sidewalks.

Also instead of so many STOP signs there should be slow and yield signs. Less stopping and starting, less pollution.

All traffic lights controlled by computers, no cars coming from opposing street, you don't have to stop.

It’s called Big Brother, Big Momma. And yes, sooner or later they are going to tell you, too, to sit down and shut up.

If Big Mama would've taken "The T", then she wouldn't have gotten all those parking tickets anat.

No one told her parking would be such a nightmare

Just who's job is that?

That said, get the hell out of Pittsburgh. Lots of fine people in other places. Willie and I alone could keep her in business near Houston.

“a dozen 40-pound boxes of chicken and ribs”

Are you going to help her load and unload from the train?

so they end the ability to get permits while unloading delivery trucks... at which point, the cops are able to write tickets on every delivery truck they see stopping at every business.

just another way dem types collect taxes. and since businessed are evil, it’s a win-win.

Did she not see all of the no parking signs when she decided to open there? Or did she jsut think they wouldn’t apply to her?

I wish I could help ya, but the doctor sez I can't eat that stuff no more.

BTW, you wouldn't happen to have a good recipe for low-fat, low-salt kielbasa, would you?
I can't find anything that even comes close to what I'm allowed to eat in the store.
