Christan Morales says her son just wanted to honor American troops when he made a hat decorated with an American flag and small plastic Army figures.

But the hat ran afoul of the district's no-weapons policy because the toy soldiers were carrying tiny weapons.

"His teacher called and said it wasn't appropriate because it had guns," Morales said.

This is outrageous! I salute this fine young boy who was trying to honor our wonderful troops. Instead of punishing him this moronic principal should be commending the boy! Disgusting!

The only way to fix this is to vote out all of the existing school board and start over with people that have some freaking brains.

For that to work you'd have to voters with brains, and the elections over the past few years have shown that to be false.

That’s why it is impertive that people remove their children from such irredeemably corrupt and godless institutions. They cannot be fixed, only destroyed. They are mindkillers.

Superintendent Kenneth R. Di Pietro said the principal told the family that the hat would be fine if David replaced the Army men holding weapons with ones that didn't have any.

"The issue for us was, can it be done in a way that didn't violate the zero-tolerance for weapons?"

If a tiny replica of a military weapon violates your "zero-tolerance for weapons" policy, then you need to fire everybody involved in the writing of the policy and get new writers to come up with a policy that actually encourages learning and education. Based on the Superintendant's assertion that the tiny toy soldiers with weapons caused a violation of the policy, then a model of a B24 or B25 or B27 of P51 or F47 that might be used in teaching about WWII would violate the policy. Or for that matter a battlefield replica with tiny figures to illustrate a revolutionary war battle or a civil war battle or even Custer's Last Stand would be a violation of the policy. Obviously, the board and the superintendant are TOO DAMN STUPID to be entrusted with the education of pets, let alone children.

The teacher who ratted the kid out is obviously mentally ill and should not be permitted to work near children.

It’s easier than you might think to get conservatives on school boards. Once they get there, it’s harder than you can ever imagine to change things for the better.

Can we shoot the teacher and administration that allowed this? Idiocy like this SHOULD be terminal.

I mean, seriously? A toy soldier with a gun!? *gasp*
What’s next? A police officer with a gun?
The next thing you know they might think that hunters might have guns, and from there it’s only a slippery slope until EVERYONE has guns!!
...AND THEN THERE WILL BE RIVERS OF BLOOD IN THE STREETS!

Had these people been in charge when I was in elementary school I would have spent the rest of my life in a gulag.

Here's some proof of that.

This took place about five years ago - the school board voted a policy that simply allowed discussion of alternate theories of the origins of life. It passed, but created a crap storm that you wouldn't believe. It appears that is has since been rescinded.

Home school. Private school.

And target every school board member at the next election, specifically on this issue. Run yourself a slate.

I would start going through every school book and lodging a formal complaint if guns were pictured until the teacher/school/district backed down and issued an apology.
