Might be old news to some; its new to us. Did a search of FR for Penny and turned up nada. Anyone have the scoop on this design? Seems a wee bit "divisive" towards the south.

I like the variety but it does look like play pennies.

No
Latin for “Out of many, one”,
“The motto “E Pluribus Unum” was first used on our coinage in 1795, when the reverse of the half-eagle ($5 gold) coin presented the main features of the Great Seal of the United States.
E Pluribus Unum is inscribed on the Great Seals scroll. The motto was added to certain silver coins in 1798, and soon appeared on all of the coins made out of precious metals (gold and silver).

Not sure why anyone would be offended. I’m full on yankee and thing pennies with the confederate battle flag on them would be cool.

I’ve been grabbing them up myself. They are easier to find than those four Lincoln pennies. Those just disappeared.

It is play money, just like the rest of it. If it was gold, it wouldn't be play money, though.
Sorry all..surfed to some other threads..
Probably just me, but "Lincoln's Shield" just seemed a bit "in your face" as the south get's pummeled under current circumstance.
Sorry, enjoying a couple beers tonight; probably reading way too much into it.. /later

"We can build a collective civic space large enough for all our separate identities, that we can be e pluribus unum -- out of one, many." E Pluribus Unum is the motto on the Great Seal of the United States of America, and is Latin for "out of many, one," not "out of one, many."-- Vice President Al Gore -- (Source: January 1994. From a Milwaukee speech to the Institute of World Affairs as quoted in Investor's Business Daily, October 25, 1996.)

It looks like it should come from the “Hall of Justice” and should be a token in an arcade.

Lincoln had to decimate the Constitution in order to “save” the union. The real history of the Civil War’s impact is only now being understood.

Lincoln’s shield? Maybe time to lay off the booze.

The face of Lincoln isn’t “divisive” to the South but his shield is? Got it.
