Troubled Mel 'leaving the States' after selling his New York mansion at cut price

Mel Gibson is poised to quit the US after selling his mansion near New York.

The disgraced Lethal Weapon star, who faces allegations of violence from his Russian former girlfriend, sold the mock Tudor property, known as Old Mill Farm, for £16 million – £10 million less than the asking price.

Gibson has also put his Malibu home, Lavender Hill Farm, on the market for £10 million, according to a property newsletter.

He has told friends that he will move back to Australia - where he grew up after moving from America when he was 12 - with his ex-wife Robyn, who still supports him.

Gibson, 54, is ready to contest the allegations of Oksana Grigorieva, 40, who claims he punched her and hurt their baby, Lucia, in a drunken rage in January.

A source close to the family said: ‘Oksana’s allegations have united Mel and Robyn and this move is her idea.

I don’t find that anyone’s Jewishness or short stature are disqualifying factors from the human race as you imply. And his gayness is discreet. I merely pointed out those factors because they enter into a situation where Mel Gibson has denounced gays and Jews in his drunken rants. Levin’s not responding in kind, at least publicly, are to his credit. What is your excuse?

If he called her. He may or may not have been too drunk to even remember calling her. Or stone-cold sober, for once, and knowing very few people would believe him.

Yes, definitely a mess. Not to put too fine a point on it, he may also be every bad thing everyone has called him, lately. We just don't know, and may NEVER know.

I'm not really defending him, just trying to remind people that we really do not KNOW. Among other things, as you point out, it may not even be his voice, and as others have pointed out, even if it is, it may not be from the supposed phone call. We'll just have to wait and see what happens, and may never actually find out, either. If it provokes him to get himself squared away, maybe it will be worth it, in the long run, to all of us. If not, well, celebrities fallen from grace aren't exactly rare, are they?

I agree with your assessment. I’m assuming he was drunk when she taped him, ugly drunks can say all kinds of crap and look bewildered once they sober up if someone tells them what they said or did. I remember college acquaintances who would yell all sorts of random expletives, and drunk dial people.

I’m glad his former wife is getting him out of here. It’s unfortunate, but part of the genius of an artist, is their partial insanity at times. Obviously mixing that with alcohol has negatively burdened Gibson.

Visualize what computer graphics has done for animation and movies, and photoshop for pictures. You can do all that with audio as well.

The house was actually in Connecticut, and I’ll believe this rumor about going to Australia when I read it in Radar on Line.

..she must be truly selfless & full of mercy.

I think it goes beyond that. Theirs was a truly dysfunctional family and any woman who jumps back into that dysfunction has some problems of her own.

She is an honorable woman beyond what we normally see in society. She is seeing him as out of sorts - out of his normal realm of behavior and she’s pulling his nasty sass back from the brink...because she loves him and has mercy on him.

This is pure gossip and they didn't even get it right. Old Mill Farm is in Greenwich, CT. It's also been for sale since 2007.

Greenwich is a suburb of NYC...less than 30 minutes from Grand Central Station by train. The majority of adults who live there (probably a huge majority) work in Manhattan. For a British paper that's close enough.

I suppose so but nothing in the article is correct. That property was for sale before he met the Russian. They are stretching the truth here.

I think what they're trying to communicate is that there's haste involved in some of his recent actions...a sense of urgency. If that's the case one question that could be asked is "when did he lower the price of this house?"

I know very little about this case. But what I do know suggests either that he's the victim of a pretty clever slander campaign (possible, given his wealth and conservative beliefs) or that he is,at the very least,in need of some serious psychiatric intervention...if not a swift kick in the....well,I'll stop there.

Since it’s been on the market for at least 3 years, and with the state of the economy, I think they lowered the price just to dump it. It’s beautiful and has award winning gardens but they’ve been trying to sell it for quite awhile.

That's certainly possible. But it also seems possible to me that the "urgency' theory applies here. That urgency, perhaps, being motivated by his desire to get his assets out of this country in anticipation of an ugly (and *expensive*) fight in the courts.Fights that would probably involve requests by the Russian for obscene amounts of alimony/child support/"damages".

But we;ll probably never know for sure.

They had a court mediated agreement for $10,000 a month. She reneged on child visitation. So they are back in court.

His wife was awarded half, $400 mil.

He has contracts for 2 movies. I don't think he's leaving. I think it's BS.

But could it be that he's now "toxic" and the backers of those films will find a way to wiggle out? Is he now,in the eyes of the powers that be in Hollyweird and/or the movie going public, what Roman Polanski *should* have been for the last 30+ years?

He has enough money that it doesn’t matter. One film is with his friend, Jodie Foster. The other he wrote. He already proved that he doesn’t need Hollywood. And these movies are in the works for the next 2 years. Things should be settled by then as to whether the Russian is telling the truth.

as is your customary wont, you misunderstood my post hence replying to your surmises based on your lack of comprehesion are not warranted

i love the way PC freepers always make broad accusation that someone said something racist or bigoted when they did no such thing and then take the usual high road brimming with their own bigotry and stereotypical invective and proclaim self righteous victory

a Yankee trait since forever..and the road to ruin for this nnation and or culture...whether Jewish, Homosexual, dwarf or not

that you would tout Harvey Levin on a conservative forum says plenty...we can let those perusing this thread determine for themselves

good day

It would be great to see Mad Max in his twilight years living on the coast with the refinery/oil well people that he saved, saving them again from threats in a world gone mad.

Your post has done exactly what it accused me of. You apparently missed my point, which is that Harvey Levin seems to be the exact opposite of a man who would defend Mel Gibson. You then reviled Harvey Levin and me as a PC northerner who “endorsed” him. You condemned my confidence in expressing an opinion as “self-righteous”; yet you are the one who, while missing the point, thundered judgments about who belongs on FR and who does not; and how Yankees (like me, you imply) are ruining this nation.

Because my point was that Levin is so manifestly, obviously decadent that he is the last person one would think to display compassion for Gibson, the reading comprehension issues are yours.

Possibly you cannot bear to think that someone like Levin, who exemplifies all that you hate about pop kulture, has any redeeming value as a human being, and therefore you must also hate me for being astonished that he was man enough to say something generous about a Christian hetero conservative.

Has it occurred to you that Levin may well have chosen to appear objective in order to make more money hammering the story on his show and web site as well as appearing on the lib-loathed FoxNews, to which my original post referred? Even if he’s only doing it for the money, his ability to choose profits over anti-conservative bigotry is nearly unique in Hollywood. And you think that’s a great endorsement? That’s like looking in a sewer and saying, “Most turds sink, but that one floated for a second.”

If that’s “PC” or “northern” of me, well, kiss ma grits, honey.
