- A Littleton neighborhood is on edge after a coyote attacked and nearly killed a woman's dog Saturday morning. These attacks are becoming more and more common.Buster is a Chihuahua-Terrier mix. He was attacked Saturday morning. "He woke me up at 6:30 to do his thing. I let him out and I came out with him," said Jodi Robinette of Littleton. "And about a minute later, he screamed like I've never heard an animal scream." Robinette ran after Buster and the coyote behind her home at 949 West Peakview Circle near Angeline Little Greenway Park."And right when I came around this corner, the coyote had my dog in his mouth, shaking him as he was running,” she said. "And then, I see the coyote at the very middle of this field drop my dog." Turns out the neighbor’s pit bulls were going after the coyote. As for the pit bulls - they scared off the coyote and then protected Buster under a bush. "They were circling him and sitting by him. Making sure he was all right," said Robinette. "So it needs to be said that there’s some good (in pit bulls) and not all bad."

Packs of coyotes are common in certain areas an attacking dogs isn’t unusual. A pack jumped a fence and attacked a German Shepherd...all they found of him was an ear. They never bothered my Alaskan Malamute...why too much wolf in him.

No, I don’t own the website; I just love seeing the women in their bustles and men wearing bowler hats, posing with their pit bulls. I like old photos. :-)

Very interesting old photos. Thanks.

Now I have to go back and look at the photo I have of the family dog from my greatgrandmother’s family c. 1914.

Any person who has ever spent any amount of time with a well bred and raised pit would affirm that this is completely consistent with their character.

Thanks for posting this.

They were a popular breed at the time; both Helen Keller and Teddy Roosevelt (among numerous others) were pit bull owners.

I too love the old pics. It really shows how adored those dogs were at one time, by every type of person, and also how most were not gigantic slobbering monsters, but petite, well-put-together bull and terriers. Thanks for the pictures! I am bookmarking the page to use later.

Aren’t they cool? I suspect that Laura Ingalls Wilder’s childhood dog Jack, the ‘brindled bull dog’, was a pit bull. I don’t think a brachycephalic English Bull Dog could have covered the ground that Jack did.

Love those KBDs. Was looking for one a while back, but ended up with my Malamute instead. Definitely not complaining.
