1. Drive really slow

2. Go first at an intersection when you were there first

3. Beep when you don’t instantly start after a green light

4. Tailgaters who easily could go around you

5. Don’t pay attention at traffic lights

6. Lane changers

7. Write text messages while driving.

8. Turn in front of you without using a signal.

9. Tailgate when you’re behind someone else.

10. Wave you through a stop sign even though they were there first.

No one prefers a slower speed. I’m in the left lane because traffic in the right lane is congested and slow (and passing isn’t safe). If the speed limit is 70 mph, and I’m doing 76 mph in the left lane, that ought to be fast enough for you. If you need to go faster than that, you need to leave earlier.

I really am annoyed by Prius drivers whose noses are pointed upward and there is a better-than-thou look on their squinched faces. Oh, God...I can’t wait for the Volt fools.

Folks driving along, talking on their cell phone not paying attention to how fast they are going (or anything else). When a car goes to pass them they snap out of it for a second and check their speed, speeding up to an acceptable level. Meanwhile the car trying to pass has to speed up even more in order to pass or wait for the cell phone zombiefication to set in again, then the process starts over. Cell phone zombiefication is even worse if it takes place in the passing lane(s).

"If you are in the left lane and someone behind you wants to go faster than you - move out of the way."

I've always thought that that was a great idea. Then I can pull back out behind him and increase my speed to just below his.

With that rabbit in front of me, he'll trip any radar trap before I get to it.

Run, rabbit, run ...

Yes, you still need to move over, you cannot simply squat in the passing lane and force the world to comply with what ever speed you are deciding to enforce in the fast lane, on any given day.

Wrong. (1) It is unsafe to reenter the right lane when doing so means I have cut in front of someone. (2) Your 85 mph is way over the speed limit and unnecessary. Being in the left lane doesn't mean you get to plow others out of your way and create a hazardous situation on the highway. Slow down.

DIsagree with your number 12. The BEST way for traffic to merge with the least delay is if everybody stays in the merging lanes up until the merge point, and then mixes in an “every-other” fashion.

People pulling into the merged lane a half-mile before the end of the lane just slow down the merged lane at the expense of the merging lane.

There’s a reason the merging lane goes on to when it ends. If they wanted people to merge a half-mile earlier, they would have ended the road a half-mile earlier.

So I ALWAYS drive to the end of a merge lane, and then merge. And you know, in almost EVERY case, at that point the merged lane is starting to pick up speed, and there are natural gaps so I can get in without slowing anybody else down.

That said, I do somewhat dislike people who pull OUT of the merged lane into a merge lane that has been cleared, just to cut in front of 4-5 people and pull back in.

I usually don’t consider that they are luring me into a trap but I suppose thinking like that can keep you alive on a bike.

I have actually heard people shifting into reverse when I go behind their cars. however, that leaves enough time time to dodge and eliminate any plausible deniability.

Last week in the local shopping center parking lot a fiftiesh, half-a-hippie looking woman got out of a lime green prius with an obama bumper sticker. I laughed out loud, couldn’t help it. She knew I was laughing at her but her face told me that she had no idea why.

True. If I’m doing 76 in the fast lane it’s because the guy in front of me is doing 76 also. And if some moron behind me wants to do 80? Too bad. Even if I could safely move over, then what will he do?

They have squinched faces because they are pressing really hard on the pedal trying to get the car to accelerate past 15MPH.

And these are the same morons that lean forward while going up hill thinking it will help.

Why do people going faster than you bother you? Assuming they don’t run you over, or cause an accident, what possibly can be annoying about someone in the left lane moving at a higher speed?

I am annoyed by people who pull into the left lane and then stay there even when people are right on their tail, when there is nobody in front of them and the lane next to them is clear.

Because forcing people to pass on the right is dangerous, and makes driving less safer for all of us. It is so easy to pop over to the right and let people go by.

In general, I also dislike drivers who get on “single-lane” roads, and drive slower than the speed limit, maybe with their flashers on, while backing up traffic behind them. I’m fine with people wanting to drive slower. But if you do, have the common courtesy to pull of the road from time to time to let normal people drive by you.

And for the record, if I think conditions make it unsafe to drive faster, and there is someone behind me, I ALWAYS pull off where safe and let them pass me. Not only is it the nice thing to do, but it is safer. And if they hit a patch of ice ahead, I’ll have warning.

That's what I was referring to. I'm aware of the fact that we are supposed to merge at the merge. But some people take advantage. The guy who was in front of me deserves to get through first.

lane changers (6) wouldn’t have to change lanes so much if everyone drove in the CORRECT lane (keep RIGHT except to pass).

Maybe some wouldn't, but some (or is it many?) will weave in traffic for sport.

This morning a guy in a Mustang cut in between two cars that were maybe 10 feet apart (with the trailing car in the slow lane, one right of the leading car) so that he could...well, I don't know. He had three clear lanes to his left and all traffic was running around 70.

I want to add, think they’re driving a tractor trailer when making right turns.

My wife and I almost got wiped out by a large SUV a few days ago. On a four lane road, I was in the right lane, he was beside me in the left lane. Suddenly SUV swerves into my lane, I hit the shoulder and brakes simultaneously. By my almost instantaneous reaction, we avoided collision, but he ran me off the road.

He was making a left turn. Needed two lanes to get the damned SUV cranked around for a left turn.

And then down here we have texters and cellphone addicts sitting still almost through a green light before waking up and creeping across the intersection.

12. Drive as far forward as they can in a lane that’s about to close and then expect to be let in.

Yes, idiot #1 used to make me so mad. ...as well as idiot #2 who let them in.

I realized that there were lots of idiot #2s who would happily smile and wave 'em in.

So, now thanks to all those #2s, I'm now a #1 idiot as well.

I agree with you. It’s amazing how many people think they’re the best drivers ever. Who are all those bad drives? Not me, not you, certainly not anybody posting here. :)

When my husband comes home and complains about all the bad drivers, having driven with him, I tell him that all those people are home complaining about him.

“d I’m doing 76 mph in the left lane, that ought to be fast enough for you. If you need to go faster than that, you need to leave earlier.”

If the speed limit is 70, and you are doing 68 with open space in front of you in the left lane; move over.

Let the 20 annoyed cars behind you in the left lane move and let the interstate open up.

I sometimes do this, in the far left lane only, and only briefly (with a good acceleration up their tailpipe), in order to encourage more civil behavior, enticing the driver to move into the open lane to their right so faster people can pass on the left.

I would never do this if there were cars in front of them in the left lane, or if there were cars next to them. It’s only for teachable moments.

And of course, while I drive in the left lane (because it is the safest lane), I always pull over when I see faster cars coming up on me, unless they have already chosen to drive and pass people on the right (making it unsafe to pull over to that lane).

I find that recently I’m letting a lot more people pass me.
