I am with you. That's all I am seeing this morning in the print media. Nothing about the huge rally, maybe the biggest ever held at the Lincoln Memorial, in media coverage.

Years ago my father used to note with bemusement about how the media was absorbed with the evils of the Hitler and the nazi party... and they were, but never ever mentioned the murderous Stalin, Castro, Mao or Kruschev.

Could be that a hurricane wiped out a city and the government response was pretty inept.

Though the people in MS and LA seemed to get on with life fairly quickly while there is still a lot of self-pity in N.O.

Just a guess.

I live in Jefferson parish, born and raised in Orleans and I’M sick of the perpetual victim party!
I evacuated with a bed-ridden father who died 2 months later because of Katrina, so I can speak about loss- but ENOUGH!

New Orleans is declining due to various factors that cannot be reversed. It is sinking, and will continue to sink. The Gulf of Mexico is encroaching and cannot be stopped , and storms will continue to overcome any pitiful defenses built to protect the city from water. It is the natural course of things. Everything south of Lake Pontchatrain SHOULD be and WILL be ‘wetlands’.
Everyone knows it, no one wants to face it.
But the Pity Cow has been milked dry re. Katrina. Are Bay St.Louis and Pass Christian throwing huge pity parties?
What everyone has to understand is that New Orleans throws
‘fests’ for everything. This is just Katrina Fest- second line parades, food and media attention.
Dancing on the Titanic.
Locals like me- who are stuck here for now- are sick of it too.

It is as if n.o. was the only place that was hit.

Biloxi, Mississippi was wiped off the map. They rebuilt (and continue to do so) and media ignore them as well as the others places hit!

It is all about N.O. though since that is a “cooler” place for “reporters” to bitch about Bush!

By many measures, NO is coming back stronger. BTW, by a large measure NO property owners have return in greater number than “non-property owners”. Not holding my breath until that nexus is discussed.

I remember watching tv when it hit and people were partying in the streets as the hurricane passed with a gusty wind - then the inadequate levy's broke.

Exactly!

It is overload. And it is only to keep antagonizing the have nots into feeling they are still owed something. Let them do what I do in trying to survive...I work, and I pray.

BTW, it will not end soon...even the tragedy of the oil spill has not overshadowed the 5 year old memory. You and I know what it will take for that hurricane memory to be trumped. But no one hopes for that.

I don’t doubt that at all. Those that want to succeed, will.

Speaks volumes about Mississippi. Best I can tell, they got on with their lives.

What I want to know is why these “reporters” and “news agencies” are not investigating where the billions of dollars poured into that city have gone?

There has been enough money given to NO to rebuild every single home destroyed by the flood, but still most are not rebuilt, trash and debris are still there and some homes have not been touched since it happened.

I notice too that these reports never show the damage done to the affluent homes and neighborhoods in NO but concentrate on the 9th ward as if only the poor were affected.

It’s all political to them and useful only as long as it can be used to unfairly portray Bush i.e. Republicans as racist.

Did you hear the one about Dick Cheney's Halliburton Hurricane Generator and how George Bush later blew up the levees?

How Ray Nagin & Kathlene Blanco personally saved 1000s of poor helpless minorities that George Bush forced to stay in New Orleans.

How Sean Penn saved his crew and then himself from his sinking rescue vessel.

It's been all over the news, you couldn't have missed it.

I don’t know, but I’m glad my husband is actually watching golf. I’m tired of the Katrina story, there’s nothing new.
