Hope I don't get banned but I am sick and tired of free republic acting like nothing is going on!! Either we are under attack or the equipment is inadequate, I hate that there are no posts about the curent issue.
How can he post when the site has been down?
I can’t believe you weren’t kept in the loop...I am going to get to the bottom of this...
Jim doesn’t ban folks for asking a question, or criticizing FP for anything ... otherwise I would be long gone. I agree, however, an occasional update on system problems would be greatly appreciated.
Non-issue (of web pages).
lol
That would be FR not FP ... got problems of my own. LOL!
shhhhhh....you’ll wake someone up
Well, that’s been a challenge today for sure. The site keeps coming up, going down, coming up, going down. Something wrong with either the cage or the squirrels, not sure which.
It IS frustrating when a page “hangs” or a reply takes forever to post.. I’m about to experience that now.. click!
Don’t think VaRepublican mention that the system was down, just having problems. LOL!
I imagine they are busy keeping the site ‘zombie-free’... Sh!t happens, get used to it...

I have a dial-up modem so I am not too surprised when a page doesn’t load. I have noticed today that FR (and another site) have failed to load maybe 9 out of 10 times. This happens every now and then and I have no idea what is happening.
So, what is happening?
Did Jim fergit ta jiggle that handle agin?
I wouldn’t necessarily categorize those who keep FreeRepublic running as pretending nothing is happening. My guess is that they are hurriedly trying to plug each hole as it appears and anticipate everything they can before it happens.
If you’ve not worked on computer equipment, it may be difficult to understand the challenges involved in keeping it up and running.
The trade-off is having them take the time to give a status update to those of us who use *their* equipment, or spend the same amount of time trying to get the system stabilized.
In the end, what would *we* do differently if we knew it was a hardware malfunction, a DDOS/trojan/other exploit, software glitch, or power problems?
Apparently FR has different ideas.
Here’s the way I see it. This site costs nothing to join except if you choose to donate, which I do, monthly, BTW. It would be different if Jim charged you a fee for joining, then he would be obligated to buy better equipment or hire some experts to keep the frickin’ liberal hackers from making attacks on us, but he doesn’t charge you. That means you have no right to complain. Except things the way they are or leave, simple as that.
I really love FR at times like this....
if you join the yahoo group, you’ll know.
i’ve been having trouble all day and i have cox.
must be those pesky obamaites.
I didn't see his post as a complaint but more as curiosity. I'm curious too. Last crash Jim said a server "jammed". It's normal to wonder what's happening.
Yep
I don’t know what kind of security FR has on the servers but imagine having to deal with hackers, terrorists, Obama staff and all the rest from all OVER the world trying to take down FR on a daily basis.
FR operates on donations ONLY. If you don’t donate to help with upkeep and improvements (which the vast majority don’t), then don’t complain. If you do, then your question ought to be of what YOU can do to help speed things up like donate more for a new server, more bandwidth, better anti-DOS software, etc.
When someone says:
I am sick and tired of free republic acting like nothing is going on!!
that doesn't seem like an inquiry; it sounds like a complaint.
Thanks Jim, for all you do...even if you do ignore my warnings about the Christian abduction of your site...not that there’s anything wrong with that...unless that dampens one’s enthusiasm at freepathon time.
My guess is the site is under almost constant attack by leftists and weirdos. The kind of people who hate us also are the kind to do vandalism.
Well I can understand that too. Jim posts in threads when asked and not everyone sees them. In the last 3 days there must have been 4 or 5 inquiries about page views and why the activity tab doesn’t work. I was lucky enough to catch the explanation. But not everyone does. So they think something is terribly wrong and get distraught. Again, it’s human nature.
Take two reboots and call us in the morning...
Anxiety and curiosity may be human nature (as is lying, cheating, gossiping, etc.), but it still seems rude to announce one is “sick and tired” of someone else not explaining why we are not able to use *their* equipment.
For me, the outages make me even more appreciative of the hard work done by those to keep Free Republic up and running. The very last thing I’d consider communicating is that I’m “sick and tired” of them not telling me what’s going on.
We have been under attack in the past. And Obama and the left would like nothing better than to silence FR. Especially before Nov. Someone wondered on another forum today if the government had silenced FR. I simply understand the panic. And it’s not ungratefulness. It’s absolute panic at the idea of the loss of FR and absolute distrust of those currently in power.
How do you know it’s not ungratefulness?
You have to be logged in...
Did you ever spill electrons? Very tough wrangling them up and getting back into those little wires.
You want nasty you should read the alternate forum. There's a few nasty posters from here that go there and state if FR's down it must be freepathon time. That's ungratefulness.
You obviously want a fight and I'm not going to oblige you.
Have a good night.
FR won’t stay #9 on (papercuts conserv listing) if we can get on. But I can’t live without hearing from FR. So I guess “it is what it is”.
I have no desire for a fight. I do have a desire to do whatever I can to give techies a break.
You’ll pardon me, I hope, if I don’t look to your profile to get some basic information on you. But, as a former geek, adding pressure when things are failing isn’t helpful. I only hope FReepers can give John a break and not demand status reports. Whether they’re panicking or not, it’s not helpful to the people busting their butts on their Friday night to try and get the system back up.
Always check FR on yahoo.
Jim can’t post here when the site is down.
Scroll down. See the one with the calendar?

Jim and John,
Thank you for all you do. It is so valuable.
FreeRepublic withdrawal symptoms!
What is going on with the FR Yahoo group? Can you please provide a link? I have joined a Yahoo group called Free Republic, but Jim did not post on it today and there was no activity during the system outages. I think I have connected with the wrong one.

Most of the posts are from “Rich Martin”.

re: wrangling them up
Reminds me of the Superbowl “Herding Cats” commercial!
The FreeRepublic Yahoo Group HAS NO CONNECTION TO FREE REPUBLIC. The alternate FR group on Yahoo is freerepublic2.
i decided to stop getting the messages because my in box would be literally flooded when FR went out. your link looks like the right one.
“if you join the yahoo group, youll know.”
************
I thought the Yahoo group had disbanded due to being spammed to death?
I checked yesterday and didnt see any updates about FR in my yahoo inbox.
Uh.
Christian abduction??? OMG!!!
Quix was right!!! But.......
I'm still here. Oh noes!!!
