Thanks!
Getting worse, not better.
Somehow, all that intelligence and common sense got you the ZOT.
And the less we as a nation hold to the belief that human life is sacred because its source is a holy God, the more "profane" we become in our attitude toward that life, until we begin to see it as "accursed."
Then, it becomes all too easy to assume we have not only the right to verbally assault it, but also physically attack it, and thus "damn" even our own selves!
Perhaps that's why the apostle Paul so strongly insisted that the best way to "pour coals" on a person's head was to pray for them: it puts the "burden" for the "judgment" of a person on the only Person who has the right to pronounce it.
And it ain't me--gosh dang it!
Well said.
Spencer W. Kimball ‘Profanity is the effort of a feeble brain to express itself forcibly.’
I expect I had heard either that or a paraphrase of the idea when I wrote my vanity.
Profanity is very offensive to me.
Does replacing one of the letters in the F word with %## or ! mean that we have not used profanity in our posting? No. When an "F" is followed by three characters instead of the other three letters and it is looked at, a persons mind pronounces the word.
Not any different then saying the word except no one hears it.
Here's a good example:
Obamacares Pajama Boy: I am a liberal f***You seem to be a Bible kind of guy, Don-o.

Ethan Krupp, the little man who played Pajama Boy in a widely mocked Obamacare ad, once characterized himself as a liberal f***.
Krupp, an Organizing for Action (OFA) content writer who became the face of progressive America while wearing a onesie pajama suit, also remarked that gays are all liberal f****s and criticized a conservative gay p**** on his now-deleted WordPress blog, entitled Not Being Creative.

Do you suppose this fits with the scripture that if you lust after a woman in your heart it is the same as committing adultery?
So if you say a curse word in your heart (mind) is that the same as saying it, and a sin?
It looks like by posting the thread above it is causing many FR members to say the "f" word in their mind.
Going forward, any post using the F word gets "Is that you, Ethan?"Or maybe, "Is that you, Don-o?"
Nice shot. I did consider the points you make before I posted. Perhaps I was wrong to have posted that thread that you so skillfully pasted. If your point is to brand me a hypocrite, you probably score. My language in real life disappoints me at times.
However, in public and on this board, I am successful in confining myself to standard English. In my daily life, I can pretty much go about my business without hearing profanity. However, it is a very rare day on FR that F bombs (coded or otherwise) are not included in comments.
I happen to believe that such bombs add nothing to the discussions; but, they do make the posters (and the board) look of low character and intellect.
Like Ethan.
Not difficult at all. View source, highlight and copy.
I'm not trying to brand you a hypocrite, but glad you see that it is applicable.
In my daily life, I can pretty much go about my business without hearing profanity
And so it usually is at FR too, but now there is more with the post you posted.
The words are said in the mind when seen with the ***'s, both the word starting with f and the one starting with p.
It does nothing for the discussion here at FR with the words starred instead of redacted.
Better posted with a link and warning that the article has major curse words in it.
You have gotten away with swearing with out swearing...or so it may seem.
T'was not my intention. You may have the last word, should you choose to.
I agree. Bad language and vulgarity of all kinds is from the stupid, for the stupid, by the stupid.
The fact is some FReepers will make fun and attack people who want a more decent website. I find it very sad.
If you did have that intention, while you were in the middle of composing the thread your conscience would have kicked in and the thread would not have been posted at all.
Oh and I don't play the condescending/Iwon/Youlost “you can have the last word” game....
Which words are considered “profanity” is completely arbitrary. They are just words. You really need to get over it.
Well if you realize that man assigns the meaning of words, than why can't we just use the words?. You just admitted that profanity is arbitrary.
Not likely to happen.
It’s not the profanity that harms the conservative brand, it’s the prudishness. Some of the moral ninnies on this site make all of us look like complete fools.
“The fact is some FReepers will make fun and attack people who want a more decent website. I find it very sad.”
They grew up watching southpark and family guy- crude and lewd is their new normal.
I’ve done it as well thinking a * makes it less crass, thanks for the reminder. Will try to do better.
