Vanity - Harassing phone calls from "Prolixus"
GraceG | 0925/2010 | GraceG

Posted on 09/25/2010 6:51:34 PM PDT by GraceG

Over the last few weeks I have been received up to 5 calls a day from these fraudsters from the "Prolixus" people. They call claiming to be from the "Prolixus Identity Protection Center" and they claim that I contacted them earlier for a call back. Well the problem is their product is a "male enhancement" product and I am female. This doesn't seem to stop them from calling me for what seems like ALL of the time.

I have on several occasions demanded to talk to a supervisor who then assured me I would be taken off of their list within 24 hours, but they still keep calling. I have tried explaining to them that trying to sell this stuff to me is like trying to sell a fish a bicycle, still doesn't work.

They are really annoying the living carp out of me. I guess next time they call maybe I will try to waste their time on the phone and try to engage the person on the other side in useless chit chat, maybe try to make it cost them money because these harassing calls are costing my sanity.

Just immediately say “please put me on your do not call list” if they say anything else, repeat that and say that under FCC regulations they have to comply or be reported. That usually shuts them up and ends the calls.

$5 dollars ($13 installation fee) a month for the call blocking feature with my local phone company. I find it worthwhile

Sounds like you probably have valid legal claims against the caller (if you can ID the REAL caller) under the federal Telephone Consumer Protection Act, 47 U.S.C. 227, et seq.

You could receive up to $1500 per call. Keep a record of the date and time of each call, and record them if you can. Save any Caller ID info you might obtain, too.

Freeper mail me if you want to chat. I will send you my office number. I handle these types of claims (in Ohio) and might be able to hook you up with an attorney who could help you.

I haven’t had a telephone other than my cell in six years. Stopped all the crap calls.

I don’t have caller ID which makes it even harder... Maybe I should get a caller ID box..

I hate to sue them because I do not like messing with lawyers.

[I haven’t had a telephone other than my cell in six years. Stopped all the crap calls. ]

I usually only use my land line for calling out to other numbers. I have considered canceling it and getting skype and using the extra money saved per month to boost my online speed.

Do they provide their name and/or number in their calls? Are the calls made by live operators or are they made through the use of a prerecrded voice?

A well rehearsed barrage of choice expletives usually works too!

I’m on the “Do not call list” and have not been bothered by any calls since I joined over 3 yrs ago.

You might dump your land line. Cell phones have even more protections and remedies than land lines.

There are a couple of options other than a land-line and I have never missed having one. Gmail now has a voice option, so that is another option.

I haven’t heard of them but I got yearly calls from kaiser for years reminding me to get a breast exam. You would think the male voice with a business greeting would give them a clue.

Others have apparently complained about their calls:

I’m on the do not call list and thus have avoided official sales calls.

A politician could probably snag my vote real easy though if they’d make a “do not call” list for political calls. All year long, but even more so in the months leading up to an election I get a minimum of 2 calls a day - the NRA, the NRTW, and numerous calls from suspicious area codes in the DC/northern Virginia Metro area. I don’t even answer the ones without a number I know. That’s what voice mail is for. Thank goodness for caller ID but the frequent interruptions alone are a pain in the butt.

Answer the phone, tell them you want to talk to them but need to do something for a second, put the phone down and walk away. They’ll get the message.
