Kinsey, the service dog who has been the constant companion to Columbus artist Paul Neufelder for 11 of its 13 years, is not what you would describe as overly aggressive.
This month, while Neufelder had stopped for a conversation with one of his downtown neighbors, Kinsey curled up alongside his owners wheelchair and remained in that position for more than a half hour.
"Shes a remarkably docile animal," Neufelder told the neighbor. "In fact, shes trained to be that way."
That docile nature has served Neufelder well for their entire relationship. "She helps me in the most basic of ways," he said. "She opens doors, picks up items I drop things which are commonplace for most people but things which Im unable to do."
Neufelder is a quadriplegic. He has not, however, let his limitations get in the way of an active life. He is an artist and has become a teacher and mentor to scores of local residents, especially students.

That man should start breaking in a new service dog.
He is going to be devastated about the loss of this one. A new dog in the wings would help him cope.

Hopefully the owner of the attacking dog has been at least fined.
