I was pleased with my results SFG too. Hubby was dubious at first, but once the first bed was in and doing well, he couldn't wait to build me a 2cnd one. LOL.

I had good luck with beans, melons, cukes, corn, basil, and corn. Onions and carrots not so much, but very happy overall. We are building beds 3 and 4 now.

Hubby was rear-ended a few years back, and they totaled his car. He wanted it fixed. I went to several dealerships and got quotes for what such a car would retail for. Also used the internet.

When they came with the check, I first got them to verify that they would pay retail, not wholesale, and that the year and mileage were the most important factors. Then I proved that their valuation was understated, and that the car could be fixed for less than the true value.

Agent said there is a car just like yours at the dealership for this amount of money. I said you just proved my point - that car is 2 years older, and has 70,000 miles more than our car.

Agent talked to supervisor. Hubby got his car fixed. All was well.LOL.

Not sure if I have pics. I’ll check and see, and if not I’ll try to remember to take some. I still don’t have a digital, just a point and shoot that I bought 20 years ago.

It is also called white walnut. It is native to USA, and the nut tastes a lot like black walnut. It is now endangered, due to some sort of canker. So far we don’t think our tree has the disease yet.

The orchard is a dwarf orchard, but I think hubby may have planted it a little too close together, but we’ll see how it goes.

Thanks for your story. I heard one very similar to yours with a similar outcome. The ins. co wanted to give the guy less than half of what is was worth, so he told them to buy the one just like it sitting at the dealer. They paid him full value.

Check the seed container. I don’t think it is too late. Remember to plant plenty though, it takes a bit to feed a family.

The sides of the roads do look like it has snowed. Every bird nest that we will see in the spring will have cotton weaved into it ... nothing goes to waste in the country.

It pays to be prepared, and to know that you don't have to accept the Ins Company's first offer. When I was younger I had no clue that you could negotiate with them.

I was pleasantly surprised at how willing the used car dealers were to help me, even though all but one did not even have that make and model in any year or at any mileage. They all said you just can't get them, cause people are still driving them. It was just mediocre model, but less than 60,000 miles.

Good luck to you, glad you are ok.

The very first year that my late FIL picked cotton mechanically, he did so with an ol' Farmall H model. The one row picker mounted on the 3-point hitch and ran off the PTO. He would turn the floor plate of the tractor around so that the tractor effectively ran backwards. My how times have changed.

Our cotton operation is pretty rag-tag when compared to what the big boys are doing. But all of our equipment is paid for and well maintained. Today, the 6-row pickers pack a module right in the basket and deposit it on the turn row, with the module being half the size of the one I posted. All for a mere $650,000.00 per picker!

In the high plains of the Lubbock area, they don't have cotton "pickers", they "strip" the cotton off of the stalks -- boll and all. The gins in that area can handle all of the sticks and trash, where our gins can not. We have to "pick" only the cotton fibers, with a stray boll and a dried leaves mixed in. The cotton strippers do not have all of the thousands of moving parts that the heads on our pickers have, so they are much easier to maintain.

Cherry, most varieties of brussel sprouts are ready for harvest when the sprouts are about 1-2” in diameter. I pick mine when they are 1” ... I think they are milder that way.

The first picture shows the butternut tree in the top right hand corner. The second picture shows the butternut tree in the background. Look way past the corn just above the pie pan on the right. Not the best pictures of the tree, but maybe you can get a little idea.LOL.

You can reply to the FReepmail and put the Admin Moderator, Lead Moderator, John or Jim in the “to” line ... and you can remove the original sender, which will be filled in automatically when you hit reply.
