Thanks for posting. Great article. As a life-long Detroiter and baseball guy (born 10 years after this series) the names I recognize in the lineup are Gehringer, Greenberg, York, Newsome and Averill.

Had a chance to see the Reds play in Cincinnati in 68 or so. Don’t remember much about the game except that our seats were sort of behind home plate.

This series once again proved an old baseball maxim: Good pitching beats good hitting.
While the Reds are back in the playoffs, I don’t think they are going to repeat their heroics of 70 years ago. The Phillies have too much good pitching to go with their good hitting.
