>>We’re even had to write in letters to the schools saying that my kids will not be weighed, , seen by their Doc etc .
Their height, eye sight, weight has nothing to do with the school.<<

How in the heck is the government supposed to get its records about the population unless you allow them to ‘treat’ your kids. Don’t you realize how important annual flu shots are? I’ll bet your family name and address is high on the list of federal government haters!

They’ve been doing this for years at salad bars. They put expensive items like olives in the back and make you reach for them.

Of course they believe, in fact, they know. They educated them. If this tactic doesn’t work next they are going to try the “old Jedi mind trick”.

“You don’t need that chocolate milk”...”I don’t need that Chocolate milk.”...”You’d love a carrot”...”I’d love a carrot.”

I went to a private Catholic HS and the cafeteria was contracted out to 2 teachers who served such treats as 'Venetian Loaf', (mystery meat) 'Buffalo Balls' (fritters), and golden brown french fries.

Golden brown because the fryers were cleaned out twice a year.

I'm sure that most people remember the "Venetian Loaf" - or whatever other name it went by. Those old military contractors had to sell to *someone* after orders for K-rations and C-rations began to taper off.

My high school (also Catholic) was infamous for its hamburgers. Not because of the meat quality, but because the cooked burger patties, still warm, were placed on buns then wrapped in a clear plastic pouch, which trapped condensation. The moisture then soaked into the bun, imparting a very strong plastic flavor.

It required a heavy application of ketchup, mustard and other toppings to cover the industrial plastic chemical flavor. Thank goodness for those 3-gallon jars of condiments, especially the "Heavy Duty Mayonnaise".

That's a good start, but I don't think they will be effective until they get to shock collars and cattle prods.

Maybe they need a giant screen on one wall where people from the state can monitor the kids around the clock...

Here’s a hint. Don’t offer cookies and french fries. Study complete. Gimmee my ten million.

Weird how many Freepers think that what they think kids should eat is relevant. That is so fascist I can hardly take it lying down. Its not your business.

As the article below demonstrates the psychosocial influences on obesity are very complex and demonizing food groups is more likely to backfire as is pushing others.

Well there’s $2 mill. wasted due to lack of common sense or to give cronies jobs. I seem to remember kids didn’t used to be given choices because it was the adults responsibility to see that kids ate right and learned proper nutrition. Parents knew that left on their own kids wouldn’t make the right choice. There were no soda pop or snack machines. Putting the machines in schools and selling candy is strictly profit driven over consideration of what’s best. I also objected when they had pizza days funded by Pizza Hut to promote reading. It’s nothing more than marketing for Pizza Hut IMHO. They can position the less healthy food anywhere and the kids will bee line to it.

The only way for something almost like this to work? Wrap the meals to go, and use pages torn from Psychology Today as the wrappers. Thanks jackspyder.

My son will eat almost anything out of a paper cup at Costco. If I buy the item and bring it home, he changes his mind. Even if I put it in a paper cup.

He’s finally growing out of his picky stage, but he still loves to eat samples at Costco.

Also - I used to teach in the inner city and had the pleasure of introducing many kids to these things called “vegetables.” (Also to things called “forks” if you can believe that!) I told them stuff like, “Broccoli and macaroni and cheese make nachos when you mix them together. Try it, it’s my favorite. The broccoli look like teeny tiny trees for teeny tiny mice.” It worked most of the time.

A neat way to get kids to try artichoke is to call it dragon scales. My kids fight over them lol. Brussel sprouts can be decapitated heads (works best on boys). A lot is in the presentation, and it works best if it is presented by a parent....
