FoxNews Coverage of Chilean Miners Rescue, Too Much?
Vanity | Oct. 12, 2010 | Me

Posted on 10/12/2010 9:49:09 PM PDT by PROCON

I sympathize with the families of the Chilean miners who are currently being rescued, but I can't remember a Media event so covered since I was a 12 year old kid during the JFK assasination coverage.

Why is this event so covered?

I would hate to be you. Seriously. You're pathetic!

Perhaps you would feel better if I told you tragedies occur all the time that go unreported. Every day, in fact. Many of them preventable. People die. People get rescued. Yeah, it's always better when it's the latter, but we need to keep our perspective with things.

I really didn’t care if they lived or died. I’m indifferent to it.

Damn. That's pretty cold blooded.

These bills our Congress has passed and Obama has signed will kill more people that this mine in Chile ever did.

Well for one thing, nobody died. Everybody made it to the safe room and survived. Cool, huh? And for another thing, seriously? Every damn thing for all eternity now has to be judged on it's relative importance relative to Obama legislative programs? Somewhere inside you have to know that's kinda sick.

I'm hearing crap that there were things going on down in that mine that go against the 'triumph of humanity' that is being gleefully portrayed.

Let's stick you a half mile underground for 70 days and then critique your behavior afterward based on rumors that somebody 4000 miles away was somehow privy to.

I don’t mind Fox covering the mine rescue during the info-commercial part of the day — just as long as they switch coverage in case a car chase breaks out in SoCal.

I had an exchange with a retired guy here the other day that admitted to watching Fox news and surfing political sites from 5:00 am to midnight every day.

That retired guy sounds really messed up. Doesn't he realize that he's missing Red Eye?

Me too, less complicated!

I believe, as Amish, we will be exempt from Obama care. That should add years to our lives.

Where did I claim I was 'God' and that everything had to be judged against that?

I did not mind Fox News covering it live. Now, it appears that they are showing the old rescue footage on rerun.

I have found this story interesting. First off the fact that they survived from the beginning and then to live 69 days underground.

People are people all over the world. They have family and friends who care. This is a good story. Sure I changed the channel when another program came on to give me a break. I'll tune back in when I want to hear more. It's called choice.

Good question. It just occurred to me, they may not let us in. We may have to start an offshoot.

Only you know would know that. Stating that you don't care whether those men live or die, though, is a heartless and cold blooded thing to say. Even worse to really feel that way.

Like every person, you're endowed with an infinite capacity to care about others. It doesn't cost you anything to hope for those men's survival, but that's apparently too expensive for you.

Damn shame, friend.

Thank you, and I’m being sincere. People have been conditioned to believe they are supposed to care about things like this and maybe we are. However, deep down, most of us really don’t, whether we want to admit it or not.

Actually, I thought the FNC coverage was pathetic. I actually switched to CNN.

When Shep Smith and Sean Hannity were talking about how long it would take them to pull up the shuttle - all the while, they were lowering it onscreen behind them - well, it was like the last episode of Sienfeld.

Jesus, I watch this garbage? These people are idiots.

Then, of course, FNC cut away to O’Reilly - can’t miss his bloviating, just because something important is going on.

I think I will leave the TV on CNN for a few years. Their commentary sucks, but at least they have a live feed to the mine.

“ran the drill that got through to the minors.”

Thank you for the spelling gaffe. One of our families oft quoted favorite movie lines is from Galaxy Quest- “Miners, not minors!” We find it especially funny after living in so many Commonwealth countries. My daughter learned from educational TV that “chair” and “cheer”’ were antonyms. LOL.

Damn shame, friend.

Well, let's just say I realized a long time ago that most people could give a rodent's posterior about yours truly and if they were 4,000 miles away they could care even less.

I have my hands full taking care of my own family in this day and age with this shitty president and corrupt Congress, and yes, it's a matter of personal survival. It's life and death, dude. You don't even know. That's what I care about right now.

Yes, it’s probably my biggest character defect. Hey, I’m an only child and in the case of mother’s parents, was their only grandchild. However, I have to ask, do you really care or do you want to care and deluded yourself into thinking you actually do?
