NASHVILLE, Tenn. (BP)--The number of people in the U.S. military who have committed suicide has increased dramatically in recent years, with the Army alone battling a suicide rate that doubled between 2005 and 2009.
At Fort Hood in Texas, officials have documented 14 confirmed suicides and six suspected suicides among soldiers so far this year, including four suspected suicides during one weekend at the end of September. Fort Hood had 11 suicides last year and 14 total in 2008.

"Pray for them. They experience some horrendous things when they are deployed to Iraq and Afghanistan, and they come home a different person, some of them much for the worse," Auten, a retired military veteran, said.
"It's a whole new normal. Life is not like what it was before they left. It is extremely stressful, one of the most stressful wars on our military that I think we've ever experienced, at least in my lifetime. Just pray for them."

And yet, our Secretary of State decides to post this on the Depts website...a video of her speaking in sympathy to homosexual, bisexual, and transgendered youth who are thinking of suicide.
God Help Us...please.
Father we ask this day that You put a shield of protection around each of our military so that they may survive the day and night in a hostile country that is full of people trying to take away the freedom that we as Americans enjoy.
We pray that You keep all American soldiers and their families safe from all harm, Father.
Father, we pray for the families back home. We ask that You keep each family safe and healthy. We pray for the single mom or dad trying to keep the family going.
We pray for strength, wisdom and courage for them as they work, fix meals, clean the house, wash clothes, shuffle the children from one project to another, discipline, pay the bills, keep the house in good repair, keep the vehicles running and the multiple tasks that have to be accomplished to keep things going.
For the families who have lost a loved one, we pray that You would comfort them. There are no words that can be said when a loved one has given their life for their country and for their family's future security. There is nothing to fill the void. All we can ask is that your peace would rest upon them in their time of dismay.
We pray that this war will come to an end. An end that will see freedom rule in Iraq and Afghanistan. We thank You and praise You for the answer to our prayers.
We ask these things in Jesus' name.
Amen.
I have a friend who started a ministry on his local military base - and I think a lot of us who live near bases could do the same.
He meets with small groups of 8-10 men, and often their sons too. They do enjoyable activties and end with praying for each other. He has recruited other men in his church to do the same. If the troops choose, he will also do a Bible study with them, but there is no pressure to do so.
I also think they’ve worked it out that if the men are deployed, the others continue to meet, including the children of the depoloyed, and as a group they keep praying for the deployed fathers, making care packages, etc. It has been a great source of encouragement on both ends.
If I lived near a base, I would do this, it is awesome!
His wife has started doing the same with the women.
Amen And Amen
And I have a nephew who is stationed at Fort Hood. I’ve talked to him, and he seems to be okay. But...we look for any signs of despondency. He’s been to Iraq already, and is scheduled to head to Afghanistan next summer. He is certainly NOT looking forward to it.
All the increase MUST have come before end January 2009, because that’s when the messia came into office and parted the waters, lowered the seas and fed the hungry.

AMEN
Good for your friend and his wife.
Is good that he has someone to keep an eye on him.
Between having a wussy for a President and the new OPEN policy for gays in the military, I can see why.
The role that homosexuality permissiveness as a contributor to suicides is strictly avoided within the military. Look for suicides to increase as military recruiters are now required to accept all homosexual applicants, if there is a connection.
As a project my homeroom adopted him, sending him cards and care boxes throughout the year.
He made it through his tour, but last year the demons inside his head took control and he took his life.
He could not shake the fact that he had to fire on a car that went through a check point. The woman in the car died, and 5 of her children in the car witnessed it.He could not get the cries of the kids out of his head.
The military brass is into political correctness, too. That is what killed those soldiers at Ft. Hood. It is twisted and probably feels like betrayal to soliders who bump up against it.
Can you?
You think these service members are killing themselves over Obama and gays?
Thats very sad. God bless him.
“You think these service members are killing themselves over Obama and gays?”
I don’t know about the other member, but I think they are dying in vein. Obama and gays are merely a symptom of an illegal government gone socialist.
The Armed Services no longer serves in the best interests of “We the People”. They are merely guns for hire at this point. We don’t need protection from enemies overseas. They’re already here and doing a nasty but effective job at infiltrating our nation on all fronts.
It’s time for the active duty body to form a Patriot movement of their own. Somehow I don’t think this will come to fruition. Maybe it’s because they are overseas. Maybe it’s because they feel they have no rights. Or maybe they’re afraid of being court martialed, sand bagged, or discharged. Who knows. But one thing is for certain. Taking illegal orders from a socialist enemy usurper of the state isn’t helping any.
