Do American Students Know Anything???

Welcome to America where there's an incessant whine about testing...

Okay, this piece is not deep, but some may find it amusing. One of those easy-tests that kids should know all the answers to. But we fear that many won't.

Because lots of public schools would rather be struck by a tornado than teach a fact.

They like “teaching” feelings and self-esteem over no achievement whatsoever.

They know how to put condoms on bananas.

They also know all about oral sex, fisting, gerbiling, and golden showers.

And they know where they can go to get an abortion without the parents finding out.

They can “text” LOLOL YKWIM NNTTM AFIC

They’re really good at games like Dark Void and Bayonetta.

And they can handle ipods and androids with great proficiency.

What more do you want?

I missed one, the Q on art. What is a painting of a hill with trees and sky called? My guess: Realism?

Landscape!! Well now if they had asked what the two selections a printer can do, I would have said landscape and portrait. LOL. I thought they were looking for a style-type like cubism, impression, abstract. I guess I should stop thinking so hard (or trying to . . .).

Does anyone else ever feel like Dr. Spencer Reid when trying to talk to liberals?

Thanks for posting.
The article has an interesting link to a site where I have been reading some great ideas on improving education.

If kids aren’t learning, point the finger squarely at their parents and the teachers. The 60s generation’s method of parenting and teaching is turning out to be a disaster when put into practice now that they are in charge.

All of this testing IS bad because it leads to a national curriculum. If the entire country is being given the same tests, the curriculum gets built around the tests. These tests are not the same as the Standard Achievement Tests and the Iowa tests they used to give to measure general knowledge and general academics. The assessment tests like the MEAP in Michigan measure things like how well they ere indoctrinated with the Core Democratic Values, environmentalism, and other garbage.

And they give them constantly. The kids are tested for over two hours a day for about two weeks in the fall and again in the spring. It used to be mostly fourth grade and maybe a middle and upper grade. But its now getting to be that they're testing every year.

According to information from the The Daughters of The American Revolution I read a few years ago some 36% of American college students have absolutely no idea about when the Revolution was fought, or who were any of the Founders. They were equally as ignorant of Civil War history as well as the histories of World War One and Two.

My kids knew all the answers, but when I asked them where they learned about this topics they said home and school both.

DD said she learned about paintings from her grandparents and DS1 estimated he learned 80 percent of the information at school.

Interesting.

Sorry, Jeffe,
I really couldn’t think of an easy art question. Used to be you could assume people knew Rembrandt, Picasso, Whistler’s Mother. Not now. Landscape cuts across painting, photography, printer/camera/computer technology, and common usage, so I figured it might be the only word most kids would somehow learn.

But you note there’s no answers given. Honor system, you know. Truth is, if you answered a work of realism or a realistic painting, that works very well.

They know how many grams in an ounce, all the cast members of The Jersey Shore, and which Commie they will be voting for on November 2.
