Whoa... I had forgotten that ‘Fantasia’ was that old. These are some pretty amazing reviews for an animated feature... especially from the NY Times.

The “Ave Maria” was one of the greatest ever done. I can’t imagine so moving a piece of music done in a commercial production today. But, imagine it done in 3-D and Dolby Sound.

My FIL did the skeletons and ghouls rising in the ‘Night on Bald Mountain’ sequence. He was a special effects guy.

I remember when I saw Fantasia for the first and only time. I was entranced, awe-struck, rather giddy with delight.
Although the film doesn't have today's computerized, monotonously-gory, predictably-explosive, cookie-cutter special effects, so many of the scenes and visuals in Fantasia remain vivid forever although decades pass and memory dulls somewhat.
Today's stupidly-unrealistic, wild car chases, building explosions, planets colliding.....they just don't stick with me at all....well, maybe a certain D.C. government building vaporized by aliens in "Independence Day" stays in my mind for some reason or other, LOL.
Since so many years have passed and this movie is never on TV, I'm hinting to Santa for the video in my stocking.

Fantasia was a landmark in animation. As you say, no computerized special effects.
Fantasia was drawn one frame at a time by real living artists.
It was, is, and will always remain a masterpiece.

The Ave Maria was one of the greatest ever done. I think I saw the movie once when I was a kid but I have hardly any memory of it. Since then I became a Roman Catholic and developed an appreciation for Franz Schubert so I am doubly unhappy "Fantasia" is not available from Netflix.

So it is your father in law who scared the hell out of me, thank him for me (seriously). I even liked the ‘Pastoral’ sequence, which many found too cute, and those Stravinsky powered dinosaurs were splendid.

LOL, I would but he passed in the 80’s. It scared me too when I was little.
