Auburn Falls Short, Boise State Looks Strong: How the Top 4 BCS Teams Match Up
Bleacher Report ^ | 11/16/10 | Bohdi Sanders

The 2010 season is winding down and there are only four undefeated teams left going into the home stretch. The media is obviously hoping for a matchup between No. 1 Oregon and No. 2 Auburn, but are they really the two best teams?

All four of these undefeated teams are in the top eight nationally in total offense. It is on the defensive side of the ball where the distinction lies. Oregon, TCU and Boise State are all in the top 20 in total defense. Boise State and TCU are in the top three.

Auburn is ranked No. 51 in total defense, and I think that this is destined to be its downfall. With games coming up against Alabama and South Carolina, the Tigers' luck will likely run out.

My power ranking as of today would be:

No. 1 Boise State No. 2 Oregon No. 3 TCU No. 4 Auburn

SC has their best team in many years...

This Bama fan--much prefers SC over the p-p-p-plainsmen in Atlanta.
(If there's anything left when the Tide gets done... have at it!!)

Anyone who thinks that Boise State is a better team than Auburn seriously needs to get their head checked. Let them play the SEC West schedule and see what happens.

That would force Boise State and TCU to play two top-notch teams

The problem isn't that BSU, etc., don't want to play "top-notch" teams, it's that "top-notch" teams generally refuse to play the likes of BSU.

Anyway, the vast majority of college football schedules are set years in advance, with very little room for scheduling opponents on a year's notice or less.

The real solution is to actually have a playoff system. Otherwise, no team outside the major conferences will ever get a shot, even if they are the best team in the country.

Just think about it. How many QBs have been hurt by Auburn this year? What do you think will happen when Greg “Teacup” McElroy - the most sacked QB in the SEC - goes up against Nick Fairley?

Bama couldn’t handle Jordan Jefferson of LSU. They struggled with the worst Ole Miss team in memory. They lost to South Carolina which was beat by Kentucky.

Super Scam and Auburn will roll the tide. Unless Scam is ruled ineligible to play. He is the best QB is SEC history. No way Bama beats Auburn this year.

Auburn fans would much rather play Boise State or TCU than Oregon. I’m sure Oregon feels the same way.

Hopefully, the SEC officials will be on top of Fairley and will eject his sorry self if he pulls any of the junk he has been doing. Surely, they will have warned both him and his coach.

I hope the SEC puts their best crew into this game.

Then perhaps Auburn should schedule them. After all it will be such a cakewalk.

Anyway, the vast majority of college football schedules are set years in advance, with very little room for scheduling opponents on a year's notice or less.

The way to handle that is for the NCAA to set aside the two weekends for those games, if any games are scheduled for those weeks, they need to be moved or cancelled. There should be one weekend at the beginning of the season, and one weekend towards the end. Since the opponent would be determined right at the end of the season, that gives everybody 8-9 months advance notice. Also the weekend dates for the assigned games should be announced 5-6 years in advance, so everybody knows which dates are blocked out.

I'm looking for a way to keep the tradition of College Football intact, and solve the issue of Boise States.

Glad you pointed that out. Anyone with a brain can see Fairley is intentionally trying to end careers (which delights his fans) Seems all I hear from Camburn, er I mean Auburn fans and sports radio is a love fest. I've actually heard "So what if we paid for him...he's the greatest college football player ever!". And here I thought Tebow was supposed to be the greatest ever.

Auburn is dirty...has been for years but they always come out smelling like a rose. They play the 'poor lil us/mean ol Alabama' card, lol.

Roll TIDE ROLL!

As I understand it, the NCAA rules state that if a player or a family member solicit money on his behalf, the deed is done.

Not that rules matter when it comes to Auburn. That's just the way it is.

Doesn’t seem to me that the coach is doing a player any favors by letting them do cheap shots leading with their helmets, something the NFL is trying to discourage, like it or not. May not help them at the draft.

I agree, but you have to consider the source. Chiznik and Trooper Taylor were egging it on. The fans are proud of how Fairley, and others, play. Some fans look forward to him ending the careers of many Alabama players.

It's embarassing for the State of Alabama to see how they play and the WWF celebrating after cheap/intentional damage shots.

As I understand it, the NCAA rules state that if a player or a family member solicit money on his behalf

I think that is the relevant clause. Did his father do it for his own sake or for that of his son? In the mean time, if it turns out he got money from Auburn boosters, then by all means bring on the death penalty. But until then, cut them some slack here.

Full disclosure - I'm a Tide fan who went to Georgia Tech (imagine that). But I'm also a sentimental softie who would like to see Auburn finally win a title. And since BAMA can't win it this year, I would at least like to see it go to an SEC team (except Georgia, of course). And if Auburn finally wins one, the victim card disappears. And years from now when Alabama is winning their tenth Iron Bowl in a row, people will no longer be able to say that it's tough for Auburn to live under Alabama's shadow. They will simply know in their hearts that Auburn really sucks.

So for the rest of 2010, this Tide fan says 'War Eagle - Go SEC!'
