Auburn Falls Short, Boise State Looks Strong: How the Top 4 BCS Teams Match Up
Bleacher Report ^ | 11/16/10 | Bohdi Sanders

Posted on 11/16/2010 11:57:18 AM PST by pissant

The 2010 season is winding down and there are only four undefeated teams left going into the home stretch. The media is obviously hoping for a matchup between No. 1 Oregon and No. 2 Auburn, but are they really the two best teams?

All four of these undefeated teams are in the top eight nationally in total offense. It is on the defensive side of the ball where the distinction lies. Oregon, TCU and Boise State are all in the top 20 in total defense. Boise State and TCU are in the top three.

Auburn is ranked No. 51 in total defense, and I think that this is destined to be its downfall. With games coming up against Alabama and South Carolina, the Tigers' luck will likely run out.

My power ranking as of today would be:

No. 1 Boise State No. 2 Oregon No. 3 TCU No. 4 Auburn

That is funny, considering we both posted at the same time.

Auburn = Cheating scumbags.

Fairley should be benched for the season.

Yes, I saw it. I didn’t think it was worthy of further consideration.

Where in the article does it say they are adjusting offensive and defensive statistics for strength of schedule?
Just for the heck of it,heres the official NCAA records as to toughest schedule.
One of the 4 teams is ranked #1.

A. Not saying ANYTHING good about Fairly.

B. What you DID NOT post is the video from near the end of the game where UGA tried an OBVIOUS damaging chop block on Fairly ( a running back #3 I think, coming in low while the lineman held him up) Fairly saw it coming and lifted his leg.

C. On the same play (B above) the UGA lineman who held him up tried to beat up Fairly on the ground after the play was over.

D. NO FLAG thrown for B & C above. Flag thrown for your roughing the passer video clip in your post. (as it should have been).

d.1 here is the video — worth watching for objectivity here: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=jSCFE33ZEKs

E. During the various altercations, it was the UGA bench that came onto the field to join the fray, NO FLAG THROWN for that. Auburn bench did NOT enter the playing field.

F. Like any “big” game, the REFs have to manage this. Emotions get the better of players, and the REFs MUST control BOTH sides.

G. **IF** UGA has scored more points than Auburn, they would be running their mouths a lot less. Auburn outscored UGA 28 - 10 on the second half; 14 - 0 in the fourth quarter. THAT was the difference in the game, not Fairly.

If the Cam Newton “haters” would read the articles, I think the issue is not about Cam, but rather his Dad.

I am not sure you can whack AU if a player’s dad did something wrong with a booster.

dunno.

Fairly should lose his eligibility. The shot to the knee (helmet again) was disgusting to watch. That game was by far the worst officiated game I have ever watched.

My guess is that Nick Fairly will be unloading trucks or working in a McDonalds within 5 years. What a POS.

Yeah, I liked Auburn before learning more about them this last weekend. Now, I just turn my back to them...wait, maybe not, they might cheap shot me.

True. Almost as bad as playing powerhouses like Arkansas State, Clemson, Louisiana-Monroe, Kentucky, Ole Miss & Chatanooga.

“Cam Haters” might be driven by the cheap shot he took on the UGA defender in the 1st quarter when he sucker punched him in the head on his way out of bounds.

ROLL TIDE!

There really isn’t anything redeeming about you pissant is there? First all the Sarah palin nonsense, now posting anti auburn propaganda. We have taken down South Carolina, lsu, Arkansas, Mississippi state, all top 25 ranked teams. Boise’s big win was va tech, who promptly lost to James Madison. So go shovel that total defense s**t somewhere else. The sec is the ninth division of the NFL. An undefeated auburn is going to vanquish the ducks. As for the smurfs, they can enjoy their bowl check from the sugar or orange.

Is Palin still supporting Steele? Maybe that’s why your panties are in a wad.

And what of Newton and Fairley? Auburn’s becoming the Miami of the 90’s. Why not just admit that any bowl they get will be ill-goten gains?

tea party has rendered the RNC useless. Give direct to your candidate of choice. A weak rnc with Steele at the helm is best for all of us. Besides you are high up in the falcon party, you should love a weak rnc.

Yeah, that and the obnoxious grin when he should probably have played the game with a much more serious look about him. Whether he is directly responsible or not, his dad has caused the game and his University a lot of embarrassment. I would think a little less pomp would be in order.

I didn't want him to be guilty, until cumulative actions throughout the game... including the sucker punch that should have been penalized 15 yards, put resulted in the eventual first touch down.

Be aware that the SEC is going to favor the team with the chance at the national title (the onside kick should have been reversed and Ca$h's touchdown at the end of the game was fumbled before crossing the goal). Alabama has it's work cut out.

We'll see how it plays out...

Agreed ... and I’m rootin’ for Auburn! Right now, after watching Boise State play two games this year, I have to say they are the best in the nation. I believe the matchup against Oregon will show Boise State to be clearly the best around.

If Boise or TCU played in a BCS Conference, they would have had four years recruiting BCS talent and spending BCS money.

If Boise was in the Pac 10, they would have a budget that allows them to recruit on par with Oregon and USC. They would have more money to get in to Southern California and they could recruit a kid by saying “You can play for a Championship.”

Same with TCU in Texas. Gary Patterson is turning high school RB’s into All-American DL. If he could recruit Houston and San Antonio, or La and Ar, the way the Big 12 schools do, TCU would be loaded.

Then, with both teams being loaded and having the coaches they have, they would definitely have a shot at going undefeated.

The biggest problem in college football is you cannot compare what two teams have done until they play each other, because teams play an insanely small cross-section of available other teams. Most teams play 4 non-conference in a 12 game season. That means they play 3% of the teams not in their conference. This is why a playoff is a bad idea. This is what is wrong with the BCS. They should just go back to every conference playing a certain bowl and vote after.
