Luckily, they grow fast if you have sun and heat.
The last habeneros I had were pretty tame.
I took the seeds out and most of the vein.
I ate them all.
Sprinkled with salt and drinking beer.
They just don’t have the flavor I want.
Yeah that’s that’s what i do throw some olive oil, in mix it all up a great salad dressing .
Prik kee nu?
It’s a great way to use it!
Beats drinking the atomic brine right out of the jar ;)
My plants are indoors and I use a UV grow light. They are getting big and growing green, but it seems slow going. I’ve never grown indoors before, so I hope they will be OK. I need to study more to see if there is anything they lack.
See that right there, the Chili Pepper institute at NMSU. We New Mexicans know our chilis. (and hotter isn’t always better).
Give me a nice NM green chili anytime.
Now I have something to show off at the T’giving get together!
The local Mexican grocery store had habaneros on sale for $1.69/pound. We bought a little over a pound. My daughter, chef-trained by Rick Bayless at Frontera Grill in Chicago, was up from Tucson that day. She grilled the habaneros over charcoal, mixed them with fresh lime juice, and made habanero salsa — a jar for her and jar for us.
A half teaspoon of that stuff makes a whole recipe spicy. The jar is practically a lifetime supply.
I can tolerate taste wise, the habenero, and we use Daves Insanity in our chill (a couple drops a bowl), but its not the eating the spicy food that hurts... its the exit.
So I have to eat a bowl of ice cream after peppers, or I have to sleep on my stomach for the next couple of days...
My wife says its a true sign that I’m getting old :(
That's why I switched from jalapenos to serranos (preferably green, just before they turn). White hot in the mouth but great taste, and not a problem the next morning. Easy to grow if you start early and keep the bugs off, and a couple of pots will keep you well-supplied.
Ring of fire was not about vietnam. It was about R&R In pattaya beach. ;)
The secret is do not eat the seeds or even use them in a recipe, the stomach cannot digest the seeds and they exit whole..
The seeds are the hottest part of the pepper, they go in hot and they leave hot...:>)
you know, you are probably right, because I do eat the seeds, I will take your advice next time and see how it works.
Thanks for the info! :)
No you don't........
I see what you did there... ;)
It worked for me,now eat 3 times as many without any consequences...
I don’t like super hot chilies. Jalapenos are as hot as I can go.
If you're ever burnt by hot peppers, with your tongue and mouth on fire, here's a trick I learned. Drinking cold water will do nothing to help you, it only spreads the hot pepper oil around, making it even worse. The thing to do, believe it or not, is to take a few sips of hot tea, or at least very hot water. There's a momentary flash of pain, and then it's over, you're mouth is back to normal. Really, try it next time.
