Now This Is Weird...
Self | 12/5/2010 | Brad Morris

I live in Central Illinois and for the last hour, Free Republic has been the only website I can access. No eBay, Weather, Paypal, Drudge Report, craigslist, youtube, not even my local bank. I get the "... can't find server" error. I can't even get email. But I seem to be able to access Free Republic just fine. I mean it's a good sign for when the end of the world begins. But for right now it's kind of frustrating.

Do not question your benefactor.

I tried to get on Drudge earlier tonight (30 minutes ago) and all that loaded was the top Drudge banner and the bottom of the page (hit counter thing). None of the links showed up at all. Did a refresh and everything went back to normal. It’s probably nothing though.

If you are in the midwest blame the snow. If you are in the People’s Republic of Kalifornia blame the rain. ( which might mean more snow is on the way to the east)

Drudge comes up fine from NC. Haven’t had issues with any other sites, either.

If I had to make a guess, I’d say you were having DNS problems somewhere along the way, maybe your ISP is doing maintenance or having some routing problems. If you had visited FR before you started having problems, then FR’s IP address would still be in your cache. Any new site would have its address translation fail, so you would be cut off.

Comcast has had a bunch of trouble with DNS servers over the last couple of weeks (usually on Sundays). You may be able to get FR because it is cached, or (if you’re a real old timer) you put FR in the .\windows\system 32\drivers\etc\hosts file.

Uh, it snows here in California. Where I live 60 inches of snow out of a single storm is not unusual. Where do you think all of your water comes from?

This is not about TV, but strange things have been happening here in Austin for the past couple of months.

The lights come on at night.... not all of them... just those on push switches. We will wake in the middle of the night and the overhead light will be on... and the fan will be going, even though both were turned off when we went to bed.

it happens about once a week.... have never had this happen before. I am very suspicious of anything new that happens since 9/11.. and not sure who the real enemies are out there...
