Did Republicans Secretly Blackmail Obama About Eligibility To Extend Tax Cuts?

Posted on 12/08/2010 6:45:53 PM PST by Retired Intelligence Officer

Did the republicans secretly threaten Obama they would raise the eligibility question with him in order to get the Bush tax cuts extended? The president automatically did a about face to his democratic constituents and to the voters who looked up to him to 'Stick It To The Rich' so he could 'Spread The Wealth' as he said he would do on the campaign trail. There is a reason more sinister I feel on why he did this that has the democratic elite in D.C. up in arms. I personally think that the republicans (since they take over the house Jan 4th) pulled him in that meeting and gave him a ultimatum. I believe that they told him that they would go after him and expose his natural born citizen eligibility problem to the American masses and make him step down if he didn't comply and extend the tax cuts. It is a scenario that makes sense and it is something to really think about.

The "deal" is a tax increase. Of course no one agrees with that. At the same time the Republican House takes over in January. No doubt a different "deal" is possible at that time.

You will notice however that they haven't voted on this thing ~ so what makes you think this will actually make it to a vote in this Congress? I think it's a fail.

How did a trillion dollar spending bill become a win for the GOP?

Since when did extending existing tax rates become spending?

“Since when did extending existing tax rates become...”

They weren’t agreeing to existing rates you shill. It’s moot now anyway;

Defying President Obama, House Democrats voted Thursday not to bring up the tax package that he negotiated with Republicans in its current form.

“This message today is very simple: That in the form that it was negotiated, it is not acceptable to the House Democratic caucus. It’s as simple as that,” said Democratic Congressman Chris Van Hollen.

“We will continue to try and work with the White House and our Republican colleagues to try and make sure we do something right for the economy and right for jobs, and a balanced package as we go forward,” he said.

The vote comes a day after Vice President Biden made clear to House Democrats behind closed doors that the deal would unravel if any changes were made.

“Wow did the [White House] mishandle this,” a senior House Democratic Source told CNN. “Breathtaking. Members have major substantive concerns and they should have gently guided people to the finish line.”

Rep. Peter DeFazio of Oregon said: “They said take it or leave it. We left it.”

Had added the caucus resolution is technically not binding, but believes House Speaker Nancy Pelosi “will follow the wishes of her caucus.”

The Dim talking points are that cutting taxes is equivalent to spending. My position (contrary to your position and the dim talking points) is that continuing existing tax cuts should NOT be scored as spending.

Interesting. You want to score an extension of existing tax rates as spending, want to cut spending, ergo not extend the existing tax rates and raise taxes on millions and I am the idiot?
