My comment is this.
Round up all illegals and unceremoniously dump them back where they belong. After that open up the equivalent of Ellis island along the border and let a sufficient percentage of these folks back by qualifications including letters from former employers and training certificates...some untrained folks will be let in too, to do the jobs Americans don't want to do....but this is limited as we are in a world of hurt with our own unemployment.

Remember the first rule of holes, STOP DIGGING! Seal the border. Then make state laws so strict (and enforce them) so that the illegals will self deport.

3. Correct the misapplication of the so-called “birthright citizenship”.
4. Make employing an illegal a Federal felony, subject to loss of business license, and fines/jail time.

I don't want it tightened, i want it slammed shut. Then round up and send back to their nation of origin as many of the ones that are here as can be found. Once those are done you can start working on a common sense policy to let new, legal immigrants back in.
The poem on the statue of liberty states "I lift my light beside the golden door." But a door cannot exist without a wall. For it is the barrier, that defines the gateway.
