“Black Swan” was a critics wet dream. Take a famous and quite popular “classical” performance (read, done by those nasty, dead white European men) and infest it with drugs, lesbian rapes and a main character who has lost touch with reality and ultimately kills herself. At least that’s what I think happened. Think “Total Recall” with dancing.
While the main actresses (Natalie Portman and Mila Kunis) performances were quite good technically, the material they had to work with was a boat anchor.
Word on Fire staff member Rozann Carter reviews the recently-released film, Secretariat, relating the value of the "hero" to the spiritual journey toward Christ. Last night, I went to see Disneys Secretariat. The movie opens with a verse from the book of Job wherein God speaks to Job about His creation, citing the horse as an example of the majestic, twitching, untamable beauty that hearkens back to the incomprehensible mystery of its Creator

A remake of True Grit is like a remake of Gone With the Wind with the Olsen Twins and Justin Timberlake.
And where is Secretariat?
Wrong “Black Swan”, Joe. I’m talking about the one out now that turns a performance of “Swan Lake” into a cross between “Psycho” and a Wes Craven slasher movie (take your pick, I think they are all the same plot).
Anyone can stand on a log cabin porch, and look like a dirt poor orphan.
I can’t believe they passed up Secretariat.
Now you’re talkin’, pilgrim.
By the way, Mark Levin told the story of how Sean Hannity gave him one of the eye patches than John Wayne wore in the movie. Neat story!
Just Lovely! :-D
BTW, Secretariat, the actual horse, was all that.
That was really him in the Preakness sequence - what a creative way of presenting it! And I had a hard time stopping the tears. I really loved that big incredible horse!
Great, classic film.
Thanks for the extra pic. He was a great man, and a great American.
If you’ve never seen North to Alaska, get ahold of that one - one of my favorites.
The racing sequence in The Quiet Man has to be one of the greatest sequences ever filmed.
That’s when men were men, and women were women!
“Winters Bone” is excellent as is “127 Hours”
And dogs were dogs
Better yet, they'll say they haven't seen a movie, watched a TV, read a newspaper or magazine or listened to a radio since 1974. They sit quietly in their homes and read books and post on FreeRepublic.
Yes, I've actually seen many posts like that.
You are correct, sir. I am thinking RedBox maybe for the remake.....
Yes, I’ve been reading the Black Swan reviews too. Don’t know exactly how it ends but it sounds like a real downer. I love dance, but did they have to pack all that crap into it? Would it cease to be a good movie if all that crap was taken out?
