If you go to Thailand, expect to be massively overcharged for a 5 minute ride on an Elephant.

Oh, and the “rubies” supposedly smuggled from Burma being sold on the beach, don’t expect them to be real either.

Otherwise, Thailand is a lovely place to visit!

I saw a Discovery Channel story on this. Turns out that elephants live as long as people, and their handlers dedicate their lives to them. In the recent past elephants did actual construction work for which their handlers earned the money to feed them. Mechanical equipment has replaced elephants in Thailand, but the handlers still care for the elephants and do what they can to earn the money to feed them.

You can't release these elephants into the wild. Like it or not, they are domestic animals that require human care. These Aussie know-it-alls would evidently prefer that the animals be put down.

Which reminds me. A local lab rat Ph.D. was at a biker bar in town and walked over to a biker and demanded he put his cigarette out. The metrosexual became enraged when told to blow it out his rear end so the dummy hit the biker. The biker, being a lawyer only dressed as a biker on a Saturday outting with his friends, called 911 and had the lab rat arrested for assault. Now he’s having a problem keeping his job at a hospital while being processed by the court for assault. The “victim” dropped the dime on the employee at the hospital. Liberals are totally cranked up right now.
