[T]he attorney for the lead objectors, Burt Odelson, said the most telling evidence about whether the candidate should be on the Feb. 22 ballot is the simple fact that Emanuel has been missing from Chicago for much of the last two years.
"I don't think there's any doubt where the candidate was for one year prior to the Feb. 22, 2011, municipal election," Odelson said. And Emanuel should get no exemption for government service, Odelson said, because that's reserved for men and women in the military.
"That law was passed in 1943, for obvious reasons," Odelson argued.
Both sides have until Monday to file written briefs in support of their arguments. Morris said he hopes to make a recommendation by Thursday, when the Chicago Board of Election Commissioners could vote on the issue.

In the long run, though, it won’t matter. If the powers that be want him in the race (and of course ultimately elected), residency rules will not matter. None of the powers that be took the time to verify the credibility of Obama’s birth certificate, so why should a little thing like residency matter to Chicago?
I get the feeling, from what I have read, that the powers do not want Rahm to be Mayor.
Well, he can get Romney to go to bat for him. He considered his sons working on his campaign the same as military service to our country.
Laws do no apply with any consistency within the city limits of Chicago. Well, except for unconstitutional gun laws.
i saw some pics of the crawl space entrance and subsequently more pics of items stored. Looking at the entrance size it’s hard to imagine how someone could finagle a large headboard and footboard thru that small width. Some of the items in the pics look as if they might fit but not all. I doubt these pics are real.
On a word about Emanuel-he’s a crook a da*n liar & full of dirty Chicago politics. Why do these people roam the earth is beyond me.

All the local politicians have been saying the same thing, “It’s a blackman’s turn this time.”
They all speak in backhanded insults to Rahm “the interloper”.
That said, Rahm’s residency will be affirmed and he will get the highest vote total in the primary. I foresee a 3-way runoff.
THAT short campaign season will be real interesting (threats of minority riots will be plentiful).
So it’s a fight between the ‘blacks’ and the ‘socialist jews’ for control of the Chicago Machine (and all that freshly printed stimulus money)?

This is Chicago Dem politics. No matter how much they may dislike Emmanuel as a candidate, he is a Dem. He was clearly in Washington over the last 2 years. That doesn’t usually qualify as a resident in my books.
In the city of NOI and Calypso Louis Farrakhan, that angle has yet to be mentioned. After the primary...hoooooo-eeeee!
Under the applicable election laws, only the two top candidates will reach the run-off election.
The only way to avoid having to compete in the run-off election is for the first place candidate to finish with greater than 50% of the vote in the February 22, 2011 election. If that happens, the candidate wins outright.
Thanks, I was off on my timing. The primary will be a three man race - Davis, Meeks and Emanuel. The also-rans will drop out or have insignificant support (I include Ms. Mostly-Fraud in this list).
The runoff will be the most interesting. I’m thinking that Obamugabe will be true to his tribal instincts and toss Rahm undere the CTA bus.
Shouldn’t everyone be asking themselves:
“why is a nationally-known guy going from the Whitehouse to be the mayor of a city?”
Either Chicago is so corrupt that he can make a LOT of money for himself in that job (probably)
or he has some tracks to cover?
Before Daley announced his retirement, there was serious talk that Emanuel was already on his way out at the White House. The polls were bad all summer long and the administration realized that the Republicans were going to post huge gains in the midterm Congressional elections. Rahm Emanuel was designated to take the hit for the Democratic collapse on Capitol Hill. His aggressive and profane demeanor was seen as polarizing and he was roundly disliked by as many progressive Democrats as he was by Republicans.
Daley’s decision to announce his retirement stunned many people and Emanuel was blindsided. He had leased his former house for another year only a few weeks prior to Daley’s announcement. Emanuel spent much of September trying to negotiate with his tenants to vacate the house, so he could move back into the building in advance of the 2011 election. The problem that he faces is that he need to have his residency issues clarified as of last February to be eligible.
Rahm is not especially well liked in Chicago. Apart from the party ward bosses from his former Congressional district, he has no support. When he resigned his seat in Congress, he was unable to put his own candidate into the position.
