What Is Your Favorite "Grace Before Meals"
Vanity

Posted on 12/23/2010 1:35:35 PM PST by Churchillspirit

With Christmas almost here I want to find a special "Grace" to say before dinner.

Apart from the one we said at catholic school - "Bless us O Lord for these Thy gifts..."etc., I found this one by Robbie Burns:-

O Thou who kindly dost provide
For every creature's want.
We bless Thee, God of nature wide,
For all Thy goodness lent:
And if it please Thee, Heavenly Guide,
May never worse be sent;
But, whether granted, or denied,
Lord, bless us with content. Amen!

Do Freepers have any favorites?

Oh......I hope you don't mind, but my grandparents left Sweden and came to America because they were Baptists, and the Lutherans didn't treat them very well.

(I think things have improved since then. ;)

how do you get the font to put the markings above your letters?

In this case, I just copied the text off a search I did, which had the words. There is a way to type in the three "extra" Swedish characters, using "Alt," etc., but I don't recall how to do it. And you can always find the symbols in your Word stuff.

My father always used the KJV on special occasions like holiday meals.

"15 The eyes of all wait upon thee; and thou givest them their meat in due season. 16 Thou openest thine hand, and satisfiest the desire of every living thing."

So do I.

SUMMARY OF ALL JEWISH HOLIDAYS:

They tried to kill us.

We won, thank G-d!.

Let’s eat.

In Air Force chow halls mine was, “Please bless this food as it needs all of the help it can get. Amen.”

Really like that one.

I might do place cards and write that inside each one (changing "family" to "friends" as none of us are related.)

Thank you all for your suggestions.

Merry Christmas!

From school:
The Doxology, sung: “Praise God form whom all blessings flow...”

A pleasant memory from a world wise uncle:
“Grace, Grace,.. go wash your feet. Praise God, Let’s eat!”

Other than the ‘real’ one (Thank you Lord ... )

Here are a few to help those in need:

“Over the lips,
over the gums,
look out stomach
here it comes.”

Also my favorite grace -— “Grace Kelly”

An old Scottish one I thought of....

Some hae meat and canna eat
And some would eat that want it.
But we hae meat and we can eat,
So let the Lord be thankit.

My grandfather always says this one at Christmas dinner:

Eternal God, this joyful day is radiant with the brilliance of your one true light.
May that light illuminate our hearts and shine in our words and deeds.
May the hope, the peace, the joy, and the love represented by the birth in Bethlehem fill our lives and become part of all that we say and do.
May we share the divine life of your son Jesus Christ, even as he humbled himself to share our humanity.
Bless us and the feast that You have provided for us, let us be thankful for the true gift of Christmas, your Son.
Amen.

Look for your “character” in red, then press the Alt key while typing the “Dec(imal)” number in the left column.

That is the one of the graces we use. When my son was a young boy he used to mix up the words sometimes and say “and make us always needful of the minds of others”.
