Have you noticed that nearly every guest talk radio host is named Mark or Mike?

And other than Mark Steyn they are uniformly terrible.

Simone is to talk radio what I am to ballet.

Don't short change yourself, you were great in The Nutcracker! However I must admit that I was a bit surprised that they would have a guy playing the Sugar Plumb Fairy..........

When Mark Davis in guesting on Rush I do NOT listen. He’s awful. Can’t finish one thought or sentence without at least three asides...

My wife worked in radio for 20 years. Back in the day, no one used their real name. Who needed the phone calls at 2 AM?

So, the jocks and then talk show hosts used stage names. Most of the time they used a two first names, for example:

Bill Richards
Mark Williams
Dave Mitchell

And the funny thing is that some jocks used one name in a market, and another name in another market. Or they would come back to a previous market and use another name.

When we would drive from New England to Florida, I was amazed at the number of voices my wife could pick out...and then tell me the three or four names they had gone by.

It seems more folks are using their real names now. But on your local stations, listen for this. Some of the old timers are still doing it.

Well, maybe not enough time to be "100% phony." But I'd say the soi-disant Michael "Savage" achieves a level of at least 99.44% pure phoniness.

(After all, even his surname is phony!)

Yep! Who could ever forget those great spinners of the 45 RPM disk, Rusty Sharpe and Jeff Christie?

Steyn is good, but vintage Walter E. Williams and the late Tony Snow were the best.

Good point and good example (where authenticity work both ways)! He doesn't strike me as the kind of guy to have the integrity or care - to do the type of hard work I've witnessed. He strikes me as a guy who just "shows up", emotes, then goes home to his small dog and box of wine.

Mike Gallagher is awful.

The worst.

Greenville, SC (where Gallagher worked before he went to New York) has a little wannabe Gallagher on the local talk station morning show. A rude little candyass know it all, trying desperately to pattern his career after Gallagher's.

He's not a Mike or Mark, though. It's worse.

He's a "Russ".

Well I don’t think they’re terrible at all. Not the real McCoy sure...but still entertaining.
