Accuweather ^ | Jan1, 2011 | NWS

...RAIN AND MOUNTAIN SNOW POSSIBLE FOR SOUTHWESTERN CALIFORNIA LATE SUNDAY THROUGH TUESDAY...

A LOW PRESSURE SYSTEM FROM THE GULF OF ALASKA WILL MOVE INTO SOUTHERN CALIFORNIA LATE SUNDAY AND LINGER THROUGH TUESDAY. MOST OF THE PRECIPITATION WILL FALL ON MONDAY WITH SCATTERED SHOWERS CONTINUING THROUGH TUESDAY.

THIS SYSTEM DOES NOT HAVE THE SAME LEVELS OF MOISTURE THAT WE HAVE SEEN WITH RECENT STORMS. RAINFALL TOTALS WILL VARY BETWEEN LOCATIONS...BUT WILL RANGE FROM ABOUT ONE HALF INCH TO ONE INCH WEST OF THE MOUNTAINS...WITH LOCALLY GREATER AMOUNTS ON THE COASTAL SLOPES OF THE SAN BERNARDINO MOUNTAINS. THE LOWER DESERTS WILL LIKELY GET A FEW HUNDRETHS TO ABOUT ON TENTH OF AN INCH WHILE THE UPPER DESERTS COULD GET ABOUT ONE THIRD OF AN INCH OF RAIN...POSSIBLY MIXED WITH SNOW AT TIMES.

THE ADDITIONAL RAINFALL WILL CAUSE RAPID RUNOFF AND MINOR FLOODING OF CREEKS AND STREAMS DUE TO NEARLY SATURATED GROUND FROM RECENT RAIN EVENTS. THIS COULD RESULT IN FLOODING OF LOW LYING AREAS. THERE COULD BE DEBRIS FLOWS IN AND BELOW RECENTLY BURNED AREAS AS WELL AS ROCK AND MUD SLIDES ON STEEP TERRAIN...AND FURTHER EROSION OF RAIN SOAKED HILLSIDES.

THE SNOW LEVEL WILL BE MOSTLY NEAR 5000 FEET BUT COULD LOWER TO NEAR 3000 FEET AT TIMES. SNOW ACCUMULATIONS WILL GENERALLY BE LESS THAN 5 INCHES WITH LOCALLY GREATER AMOUNTS AT ELEVATIONS ABOVE 6000 FEET. ONLY MINOR SNOW AMOUNTS ARE EXPECTED BELOW 5000 FEET. MOST OF THE SNOW WILL FALL IN THE SAN BERNARDINO MOUNTAINS...WITH ACCUMULATIONS BECOMING PROGRESSIVELY LESS SOUTHWARD INTO SAN DIEGO COUNTY WHERE ONLY SMALL AMOUNTS ARE EXPECTED AT THE HIGHER PEAKS.

MOTORISTS TRAVELING LATE SUNDAY AND MONDAY SHOULD CLOSELY MONITOR THE LATEST NATIONAL WEATHER SERVICE FORECASTS AND STATEMENTS AND PLAN ACCORDINGLY. THE RAIN WILL CAUSE SLICK ROADS AND MOTORISTS SHOULD USE EXTRA CAUTION. DO NOT DRIVE THROUGH FLOODED AREAS OR AROUND BARRICADES. IF TRAVELING INTO THE MOUNTAINS...BE PREPARED FOR SNOW AND ICE ON THE ROADWAYS AND LOW WIND CHILL TEMPERATURES.

As a Browns fan, I gotta have a playoffs favorite to follow.
Go Chiefs! (Romeo Crennell is a great guy, unfortunately he wasn’t a very good head coach)

Woke up to a white New Year. We had a light dusting, just enough to make everything look white.

San Gabriel Mountains have a nice white covering....should be visible from the TV cameras at the Rose Bowl today.

Can be seen even from way down here near the Beach!

“MIL just called snowing heavily in Clearlake..”

It starting raining last night in Wino Country a little before midnight and continued until about 7 am this morning.

Some of the local weather guessers are saying that we could have snow in many of the higher hills in this area, tonight.

The two previous nights, we suffered from severe Gorebull warming with temps down into the mid 20’s and black ice on many of the roads due to the runoff due to the heavy rain the previous 2 weeks.

Black ice is dangerous for experienced bad weather drivers, and for Wino country drivers, it is very dangerous. People drive their usual 15-20 mph past the speed limit, hit the ice and go out of control. Often, people with plain 4 wheel drive not all wheel drive make the mistake of thinking their 4 wheel drive will render black ice into a harmless entity. What happens is their 4 wheel drive will find a dry patch on the road between the black ice and pull their vehicle into that direction which is either into the oncoming traffic or off the side of the road into a tree or whatever.

I did see a leader on Drudge, but haven’t had a chance to read it yet. I will check it out.
Hubby was telling me that we can no longer take photos out of a moving vehicle? That is absurd!! I can understand a driver not being able to but goodness even then he may be saving a life to do so!!!

We live in Nutsville!!!

Wondering what their definition of "moving" is - freeway speeds of 10 mph or surface street speeds of 50?
