Arraignment scheduled a week after animal cruelty trial
Seven months after Baltimore prosecutors dropped gun and drug charges against teenage twins accused of setting fire to a pit bull puppy, one of the young men was arrested again this time on attempted murder charges.
Travers Johnson, 18, is slated for arraignment Jan. 27 on charges of attempted murder, assault and handgun violations roughly a week after he and his brother, Tremayne Johnson, are scheduled for trial in Baltimore City Circuit Court on animal cruelty and mutilation charges.
The teenagers are accused of dousing a pit bull in gasoline, then lighting it afire for sport in May 2009.
The dog, nicknamed Phoenix by rescue workers, had to be euthanized. Her injuries drew national outrage, with many calling for tougher treatment of animal abusers. Supporters donated more than $25,000 to a reward fund to catch the attackers.
The Johnson brothers pleaded not guilty in that case and are scheduled for trial Jan. 19. No one answered the phone at the Pulaski Street rowhouse of their father, Charles Johnson, Sunday night, and their attorney's voice mail box was full.
During the Phoenix investigation, police searching the Johnsons' house in June 2009 said they found a gun and a small amount of marijuana, leading to additional charges against the three Johnsons. The twins were ordered held without bail.
But prosecutors dropped the gun and drug charges in March, setting the young men free pending the animal-cruelty case, in which they are out on $25,000 bail, according to online court records.
Travers Johnson was arrested again in October and charged with attempted murder, as well as discharging a firearm, records show. No other details were immediately available Sunday night.

Lemme guess...lemme guess! This is Michael Vick’s number one fan, right?
Probably because Free Republic has a good many animal lovers among its members.
So are homosexual mutilations but they don’t get locked up.
At my dog`s vet last week was a rescued pit bull that was recovering from having had hot cooking oil poured on her back. I get enraged at sh*t like that. There are some cruel, twisted people out there.
in this case the animal cruelty equals future human killer have one for their argument.....one i dont always agree with but.....this time they were right
Here is proof that those who harm animals often go on to harm people. It’s a major red flag of things to come when people derive pleasure out of torturing animals. That poor, poor dog. The pain must have been excrutiating. At least it appears this guy wasn’t able to kill his intended human target, hence the charges of attempted murder.
Interesting how often gun charges are dropped when dealing with real criminals.
Escalation from animal torture to attempting murder, you say? I'm shocked!
Come on folks, we all know this is the fault of environmental upbringing. These guys can’t be held accountable for their actions. A little therapy and community understanding and things will be o.k. (sarcasm for those who actually couldn’t figure that out)
Sick a**holes, practicing for when they move on to maiming and killing humans.
This story doesn’t tell me why the attempted murder charge.
I guess thats reason enough. I'm one of the "animal lovers" in the crowd so that would include me also.
Just a sick act by a sick individual. Too common in todays world.
I was so happy yesterday when Vick threw that final interception.

And who in the hell do you think you are?
