The Arabic studies program, funded by a federal five-year $1.3 million Foreign Language Assistance Program (FLAP) grant, was to begin this semester at Cross Timbers, then spread to Davis Elementary and Howard Middle Schools in the fall and to Summit High school by the fall of 2012.

Arabic culture was to be integrated into the curriculum in elementary and intermediate schools, then offered as a language credit in the middle and high schools. Davis, Cross Timbers and Howard are feeder schools to Summit High School.

Watched this on the news last night. I never got the answer to why Arabic? Why not Chinese, Hindu, Russian or any other language more relevant?

Would they fund a curriculum for teaching about Christianity or Buddism, etc.

Whose tax dollars are paying for this kind of program?

I’m surprised you felt the need to ask the question. The answer seems obvious, what with the feds behind the effort.

It was going to be required at some of the schools. REQUIRED.

Not the language, the CULTURE, indoctrination.

Personally I think that government agencies are so used to getting money from the government that they do not THINK of the consequencies just the bucks. There is not such thing as free money. I would have found it a long time ago.

Why do you think arabic.

Its not the language, the whole point was to indoctrinate students on the entire CULTURE of Islam.

Superintendent Bob Morrison probably needs to move on and infect some other school district. These “gravy train” school administrators are REALLY irritating. How much are they paying this nit wit? Whatever it is it’s WAAAAAY too much.

Jut show the kids a video of Nick Berg’s beheading. That’s ALL they need to know.

One good reason for Arabic language studies is so we don't have to hire Muslim Arabs to do our translations for us in the Middle East. They can't be trusted to do accurate translations, if the translation makes Islam look bad.

Back in the 1960s, when I was getting my PhD, I had to meet a language requirement. I chose Russian, because at the time it was highly relevant. I'm not sure of it's relevance today, but it still comes in handy. Were I doing it today, I might well choose Arabic because today it's a lot more relevant than Russian.

Why not another Semitic language like Hebrew or even Aramaic?

A Pelosi style cram down redux by the school district. Bypassing citizens, parents and students has become the first option of the political class (and public schools are certainly run by the union loving, socialist, political class) in their push for social engineering. All this among a population of students who are hardly crisp on their own language, literature, civics, the Constitution, or American history. Never mind our math and science ranking. We must sit back and wonder at the unmitigated gall of those who are no friend to American traditions.

Dallas area is getting as funky Leftist as Austin.

This is not just a language course being offered, it was being required and it included the tradition, culture, art and etc of Muslims. It was complete indoctrination.

“I chose Russian”.

I think a lot of the controversy is over the fact that it would have been MANDATORY. No choice or selection. When you chose a second language, you were an adult. Children are more likely not to challenge any sort of viewpoint. The language course would have also included the culture/ field trips to mosques/ and other material (not just the language itself). I have no problem with it being offered in high school or colleges but children should learn their primary language/writing skills/punctuation/spelling first IMHO.

“Are there are lot of Muslims out that way?”

Uhh... the answer to that question is not just no... but HE!! No.

I was in Arlington in the 1970s and back then Mansfield had about two residents and one of those was a cow.
