SEA ISLE CITY — The parents of a Pennsylvania woman who died shortly after attending a "Polar Bear Plunge" charity event in southern New Jersey two years ago have sued the city where it was held and the group that organized it.

Also among the 19 defendants in the federal lawsuit brought this week by Tracy Hottenstein's parents are the owners of two bars she was at on the night she died and the couple who invited her to dinner at their home that evening. Also named is the hospital where she died and the doctor who pronounced her dead, as well as the Sea Isle City Police Department and individual officers who — the suit claims — did not allow rescue workers to perform lifesaving treatment for hypothermia after they discovered Hottenstein had no pulse.

Here’s something you’d want to not do if you go back to Cape May.

"Hottenstein did not participate in the afternoon plunge that Saturday, but stayed in the resort community that night with friends."

Then whats the problem? Their daughter got drunk and either dove into the water, or fell in. What does this have to do with the event?

Who would think jumping in near freezing water would be bad for you?

Why don’t sue themselves for raising a daughter that didn’t have the sense to not go into ice cold water?

So it’s New Jersey’s fault that she got hypothermia plunging undressed into the winter ocean???

Loser pays. Any sympathy I might have for the parents is neutralized by this loathesome suit.

Their idiot daughter was a Darwin Award winner and future case on cable’s “1000 ways to Die” show.

I especially like the claim against the ER doctor who declared her dead.

Could have been that, a heart arrhythmia from the shock, a blood clot, or a host of other problems.

I just gotta ask, what percentage of fault do the parents ascribe to their daughter for deciding to voluntarily take part in the Polar Bear Plunge?

What percentage of the blame did the parents place on themselves for not being smart enough to stop their daughter from taking part in this event?

So whatever this kid did, if anything bad ever happened to her, it would always be someone else’s fault? She’s never responsible for anything that happens to her, ever?

This lawsuit will not bring their daughter back.

But it will prevent any future events such as that wherever they may have been held...........ridiculous unintended consequences.

A product of poor parenting.

The article does not state how old she was at the time of her self destructive behavior.

"The 35-year-old's body was found about six hours later a half-mile away."

When I first read the story, I thought she was an underage drinker (hence them suing the bars and "encouraging drinking").

Then I went to another story linked below that one to find out she was 35.....AN ADULT!.

The parents should have NO LEGAL STANDING for a 35 year old WOMAN....ADULT, for ANY stupidity she enacted to cause her own death.
