Benjamin Radford, author of several books on monsters and paranormal phenomena, managing editor of the journal The Skeptical Inquirer and LiveScience columnist, has released what he says to be definitive proof that El Chupacabra is not real; it's not even a hoax, he said, but rather a leftover memory of a science-fiction film.

This guy is saying that the stories of El Chupacabra started in 1995?

Too early or not early enough?

There might be alot that is unexplained, but such a hypothesis trades ignorance for confusion.

If the hoax started in 1995 then it reached legend status in a short time. I thought it was much older than that.

In lieu of a movie still (they're all too dark to be useful) here's a graphic from some 'tie-in' merchandise along with a sketch based on Madelyne Tolentino's original 1995 'sighting.' Interesting.

More importantly, what happened to Natasha Henstridge?

I lived in Texas in 1972, I remember discussing Chubbies with the ranch hands then.

I grew up in south Texas and heard my first Chupacabra stories in the 1970s at Girl Scout camp.

So it wasn’t from a 1995 movie.

Can you remember if the description of the critter back in the '70s resembled what's been reported since 1995? This guy's theory is that what people have reported seeing has changed over time and place with the 1995 Puerto Rico events introducing bipedalism and the spikey back.

Perhaps the only thing these sightings have in common is the 'go-to' name Chupacabra . . . a sort of latin Boogeyman.

Whether Bigfoot, the Loch Ness Monster, Champ or a host of other “monsters” reliable witnesses are seeing something. I do agree with the article that in this day when digital cameras are readily available and people are actively looking for these creatures it is strange that there are not more videos, photos or other tangible evidence.

I just wish the History Channel aired shows about history rather than mythical monsters and aliens. I like the swamp people show, but there are better channels to air it on.

I recall it being described as a bear shape with no hair and vicious fangs and claws. Fast as a coyote and meaner than a stepped on rattler.
