Who is the Real ‘Black Swan’?
Wall Street Journal ^ | March 28, 2011 | Christopher John Farley

So who is the real “Black Swan”?

Ironically, a film about a ballerina who is haunted by a doppelganger is dealing with critical comments being made by a dance double who worked on the movie–and now the director is weighing in.

Sarah Lane, Natalie Portman’s dance double in “Black Swan,” told the Wall Street Journal this weekend that she did the overwhelming majority of the dancing in the film. “I should specify the actual percentage of dancing that Natalie did,” Lane said in one email. “They are saying that it was 85-90% of the dancing but I can tell you honestly that it was about 5% of the on-screen dancing.”

She acted in the film. Dancing substitute used for full body shots.

So what?

Stunt doubles are used all the time in action flicks.

Sarah Lane has certainly guaranteed she’ll never work another film in her life.

Stunt doubles are frequently used and are credited.
This case is another Millie Vanillie

So who the hell really cares? I thought almost all actresses had stunt doubles, so, if the stunt double did what she was paid to do, then who give a $hit if she or Natalie did it? This is wholly unnecessary. What a beyaaaahhhtch!

"Real" as in who's the ballerina it's based on?

That's easy.

They credit their stunt doubles. This is a case of not crediting the Lane, and marketing Portman’s “ dancing skills” to get an Oscar.

Do you think she would have won if this story had been released before the voting?

The point here isn't who danced or not, it's about the "truth." I'm sure you've heard of the concept...?

See, the movie's Press Releases and Spinmeisters in Gollywood have been claiming that Portman (who won a prestigious award based upon these claims) did 85-90% of the dancing seen in the film.

The "truth", it turns out, is that she did about 5% of it, and the Gollywood Spinmeisters and her Press People have been lieing. I know the issue at the core is rather banal and inconsequential, but the truth is that Gnat did very little of the hoofing on stage.

For those who care about the truth, this is meaningful. For those who don't, they have my deep pity.

Natalie Wood’s singing was even dubbed-over in West Side Story.

Yes, a lot of the hype for the movie was about how Portman had worked SO HARD to actually become a ballerina, to dance in this movie. She was also asked specifically about toe shoes and agreed they were so painful, she would never wear them again. I'll bet she didn't dance en pointe at all. They knew they were mis-representing, and inflating Portman's dance accomplishments.

Wrong answer. He’s not black; he’s bi-racial.

Which brings me back to the naked thing. It’s a world of customer satisfaction that drives the film industry.
