Attendance Drops At Dodger Stadium; Reward Offered After Giants Fan Beating
Beverly Hills Courier ^ | April 3, 2011 | Staff

Debate about the safety of fans at Dodger Stadium continued this weekend, as a county supervisor said he wants better security at the ballpark, and the team owner said proper security was in place when two fans beat a San Francisco-area fan nearly to death.

The victim's paramedic partner has set up a bank account to help pay medical expenses for the critically-injured Santa Cruz resident, and to help take care of his wife and two small children.

No new medical news was available today about Bryan Stow, 41, who was hospitalized in medically induced coma. Doctors on Friday removed part of his skull to relieve pressure from swelling of the brain and were considering removing one of his frontal lobes, his family said.

Official attendance at Saturday afternoon's game at Dodger Stadium was just 40,809 and the Los Angeles Times reported that the stadium appeared half empty, even as the team's owner assured fans that security was appropriate.

The official attendance was the lowest weekend figure for a Dodgers-Giants game in eight years.

I'm furious. Dodgers owner, the arrogant a-hole Frank McCourt, states he is "confident all measures were in place." Really?!!

Also, I'm appalled that the victim's friends are raising money for his hospitalization. The Dodgers are not paying for this? Unbelievable.

Dodgers ownership is even more rotten than I thought and, sorry, the franchise needs to suffer until we can get rid of the FrankenJamie monster.

Dodgers Roasted on Safety Issue

McCourt told the Times he's satisfied the Dodgers have done everything they can to make the stadium safe. If so, then all the fans have to worry about is getting to their cars before the call for an ambulance is necessary. How about more lights in the parking lot, or McCourt asking his buddy the mayor to assign more cops?

. . . two fans beat a San Francisco-area fan nearly to death.

Calling these monsters "Dodger fans" is ridiculous.

Not me, amigo. How about you?

You’re right. These were not “Dodgers fans,” but thugs looking for a thrill.

I made a pact with several other true blue fans to boycott until McCourt sells. We’re fed up with his corrupt, cheap, clueless east coast ways. I know of several cases where longtime fans did not renew their season seats.

And we do love our team and we love the game....

You know what team has mad dog fans?

The Pittsburgh Pirates. For two years I had season tickets for the New York Mets and every time the Pirates played their fans would cause fights all over the place.

I got in a few cheap shots myself.

Heartless statements from McCourt and his PR guy, and it appears the Dodgers are not paying for Stow’s hospitalization. Can this organization get any more low class?

Proper security measures in place, when there were 75 arrests and one vicious attack in the parking lot?

Does Janet Incompetano work at dodgers stadium too?

The mccourts need to sell, and there has to be something politically incorrect done about the gang presence. Who would want to go to a game now?

Plenty of room on the Angels’ bandwagon.

Welcome to Chavez Latrine. The "fans" there are nothing more than boorish gang-banging thugs who are in between Lakers and Raiders seasons.

I witnessed them throwing trash and beer on an 80-year old lady when the Freeway Series (Dodgers/Angels) was on a few years back. Then there's the guy who is doing 50-to-life for stabbing a couple of Giants fans in the parking lot a couple of years ago.

You couldn't pay me enough to want to go to that hole. And the fact that they try to claim that it's "safe" there is laughable.

I’m thinking that the only difference between this event at Dodger stadium and any other sports arena is the media coverage. After all, if it ain’t reported it didn’t happen..........

Plenty of room on the Angels’ bandwagon.

Says the Dodger fan, who doesn't show up until the bottom of the 3rd inning, bats around a beachball, can't name half the starting lineup of either team, and leaves by the 7th inning stretch to beat traffic and get out of the crap neighborhood.

Sincerely,
A 28-year ANGELS fan.

Disgraceful indeed. Move them back to Brooklyn...Los Angeles is nothing but North Mexico now. This is soccer crowd kind of crap.

I don’t live in SoCal any longer, but I still listen to John and Ken (KFI 640 am) on the internets. They say there is too much of a gang presence at Dodger Stadium to take the risk going there.

Not even close. I've been a baseball fan for 30 years now and have been going to games all over the country for nearly as long. I've been to Red Sox/Yankees games--and while there are OCCASIONAL fights and idiots, the rivalry is for the most part good-natured. I've seen it with other rivalries as well. But get the Dodgers involved, and violence is the norm, not the exception. I've seen it too many times.

No, it's the fan base and the "thug" mentality. Raider fans are the same way--mainly because they're the same thugs. I leave it to you to draw your own conclusions.

Anaheim is closer but there isn't that kind of problem there. Ask yourself why...(fan base, police presence, etc.)

Reminds me of when Cubs fans started showing up at White Sox games when the Sox started winning, and there was a huge banner at Comiskey that said, “Die Yuppie Scum...Go Back to Wrigley!”
