Match.com has released the results of a new study examining the dating habits and behaviors of the 105 million single adults in America. One third of the population of the United States is single, and this means the dating process involves people from all age groups, backgrounds and personal beliefs. The study involved 5,000 singles from around the country to discover the real procedures and rules of dating in this day and age.
The results show that while traditional dating rules are still followed, other changes have occurred. New developments like social networking tools and online dating have made it commonplace to “friend” a potential date as a way to signal interest. Post-date communication is often handled through texting instead of a phone call, and young singles tend to avoid contact if they aren’t ready for a second date. Older singles are entering the online dating game, but they are more cautious of meeting someone they’ve connected with through a website.
Women and men both still feel that men should take the initiative to ask for a date, but 41% of women are comfortable with picking up the check for a first date. A third of both genders agree that you can measure the chemistry and connection between two people within 15 minutes, but only 12% would actually leave at that point in the date. Half of all women surveyed still want men to make the call after a first date, but only 6% of men are doing so within the first 24 hours.
64% of daters feel that post-date communication can be handled through emails and texts, but 80% still think phone conversations are best. Men introduce dates to their friends much sooner than women do, regardless of the age of the singles.

LOL! My sister-in-law’s husband died 9 years ago. After being alone for several years she decided to do the match.com thing. Man-o-man did she choose some real losers! Now she’s down to one and very happy.

I went to go out on a date yesterday...I’m looking to put on a pair of shoes to go out the door.....hmmmmmmmmmmmmmm.... which ones to wear? Had to choose the *least* chewed up ones. LOL

I joined a dating sight three years ago for a year.
They contacted me about paying up again at the end of the first year and I said “no thanks”, they asked if it was OK to still set me up on dates and I said “absolutely”. Two years later and they cannot WAIT for me to break up with whatever gal I am going out with so they can “use me”.
For the first time in history, women outnumber men in the workforce. They outnumber men in college and have for over a decade. Thus employed educated women find themselves hunting for a shrinking pool of educated and employed men - and find they are getting less commitment for sex than ‘the market’ used to enjoy.
At Universities where men outnumber women - there are almost no out of wedlock births, women get married more often, dating is up, commitment is up; etc.

For myself I find that after a couple years of this free dating - I will ONLY date a gal who, after meeting me- was interested enough to contact the coordinators and say she wanted me. I mean why not start out with that?
But I am getting a bit jaded. If things are not going well I KNOW that if I dump her I will be dating another good looking professional interesting woman within the week!
And I have a great job, a good education, am 6'2” tall - but sheesh - I am a long winded nerd who tells the same tired jokes - and laughs at them! I shouldn't have it THIS easy!
