A 45-year-old man has been charged after allegedly running naked into the back door of a midtown home and swiping a prized set of sports attire.
Springfield Police reportedly found Donald Watson, of Springfield, in the attic of a North Jefferson Avenue home after reports surfaced of a man walking naked through several backyards in the area.
After entering the home, tenants say, the man covered up with a pair of shorts and a shirt that sported the University of Kansas logo.
A former tenant of the house, Jason Chambers, said the outfit was one of his most prized possessions.
Chambers said he wore the "lucky" outfit during every game of KU's 2008 National Championship run.
After hearing of the incident, KU officials contacted Chambers.
"We felt sorry for Jason, particularly since his clothes were desecrated in the manner they were," said Jim Marchiony, associate athletics director at KU.
Marchiony said he asked Chambers for his measurements and told him to expect a package from the university.
"Any fan as loyal as that should be rewarded," he said.
For his part, Chambers said he hasn't given up on getting his old clothes -- stained and tattered after a run-in with a police dog -- back.
He said he intends to wait out the legal proceedings and get his memento returned.
"But it's not like I'm ever gonna wear 'em again."
