A new study ranks Minnesota as having the fourth smartest drivers in the country.
A GMAC Insurance Study released Thursday states that one in five drivers on the road today cannot meet the basic requirements to get a drivers license thats roughly 18 percent of American drivers. The study says if those drivers were to take the written drivers test today, they would not pass.
Kansas was named the most knowledgeable drivers in the country, while Washington, D.C. bumped out New York to take the last spot on the list.

**If we’re 4th, the country is screwed.**
Jesse the Body, Al Franken ...
GOD HELP US ALL!!!
Al franken apparently doesn't drive.
If this is true, then all the dumb ones must congregate between 35W and the Crosstown daily.
My state of Pennsylvania——26th rank. That’s at least better than the awful, though not surprising, rankings for New York and New Jersey.
I bet there are some correlations that can be drawn from which states have the “smartest” drivers.

lol. I bet there is too.
Indiana 7th? Clearly they didn’t test in my area of Indiana. There are stupid drivers and then there is Southeast Indiana stupid.
Noticed how the highest ranking blue state is the one that is mentioned as forth while the red or purple states that are ahead of them are not mentioned in the headlines.
(I know you are going to say that this is a Minnesota site and that it is meant for Minnesota readers. I have to mention that to be fair. But, then again CBS has never been fair to us has it?)
Oregon is #5?
Only if driving 15mph under the speed limit is considered “safe”.
I bet 30% of Oregon drivers have NEVER passed a car.
After living the first 20 years of my life in MN, and the last 38 in several other states, I think I agree with the article. The drivers here in GA have to be almost the worst.
I-75 is to me the scarriest experience I can think of
We have been almost everywhere in the US..except for California, and the drivers and the speed just is unreal
on that interstate
Someone needs to explain to Minnesota drivers that a left turn does not require parking in the street, and eyeballing a mile down the road to make sure that no cars are coming that can be perceived with the naked eye.
They must not be counting the Minnesota drivers that come down here to Arizona in the winter. Factor them in, and it’s got to drop to at least 49th.
.
Thank God for the heat, or my life would be in danger year round while driving in the east valley!
Take me off the list, I just got a seatbelt violation.
