Mitt Romney's speech to supporters in Des Moines Friday was cut short by a fire drill thanks to a bag of burning microwave popcorn.
The former Massachusetts governor and soon-to-be official 2012 presidential candidate was fielding questions about his commitment to the first-in-the-nation state at Des Moines' State Historical Society of Iowa building when a fire drill forced him to cut his appearance short.
"Discretion is the better part of valor," Romney said, urging people to head outside as the alarm sounded in the background.
"I wasn't trying to get out of tough questions, I promise," he said later.

However this reporter has since learned that certain warehouses near Romney’s CA home have been filled with paletes of boxes of popcorn

This could be an interesting way for someone to harass a candidate. Most of these places will have a break room or a cafeteria. Simply sneak in there with a microwave popcorn bag, set the timer for 25 minutes and then walk away.
Well you know how most of the time, when we say “bring popcorn” it means some RAT is melting down....
It’s my understanding that most public places have fire alarms that have to be pulled or activated? Burnt microwave popcorn is pretty nasty stuff but it shouldn’t require an evacuation two floors away or whatever, etc. Seems pretty weak. What’s happened to this country?
