Police: 1 dead after 2 women fall from W Hotel window while 'play fighting'

Atlanta, Ga. - Saturday morning, two woman plunged 10 stories out of a window at the W Hotel in midtown Atlanta after a round of 'play fighting,' according to police.

LaShawna Threatt, an aspiring model was celebrating her 30th birthday at the posh hotel when the incident occurred. She was killed as a result of the fall.

Ciara Williams, the other woman involved in the 'play fighting,' also fell, but rolled off a ledge and then fell the remaining 20 feet onto the patio below. She remains in critical condition at Grady Memorial Hospital, Atlanta Police Department spokesperson Carlos Campos told the press.

Witnesses reported seeing the women crash through the window at about 3:15 a.m.

Atlanta Police Lt. Paul Guerrucci said “It appears there was no malicious act, no foul play, they were just wrestling with each other, they hit the window, the window broke, and they fell out.”

Threatt worked as a model doing party promotions for beverage companies, according to AJC.com.

Williams is a background urban dancer, who also owns her own marketing company, Passionate Chonvill told AJC.

I have never, ever in my long (60 year) life ever tumbled against a window. The few collisions with walls or doors were always the result of horsing around. I agree that horsing around should not be a death sentence. I remember reading a vignette in Readers Digest (more than 40 years ago) about some secretaries in a New York high rise office building who were skittish about floor to ceiling windows in their offices.

To allay their concerns, a 200 pound construction engineer in a hardhat made a call. He removed his hat, took a running start at the window, hitting it squarely with his shoulder. He replaced his hat and departed. The complaints about the window stopped. That’s the kind of testing I like; it shows faith in your work.

I have some sad news.....it’s the over 60 crowd that’s starts stumbling, losing their balance and falling for silly reasons. When it happens you feel like an idiot.
If it happens in a hotel room on the 10th floor near the window, you have to hope the window is going to hold up.

I understand, but when I do fall against a window, it’s not going to be at a gallop.

You never know. Lol. Sometimes you try to keep from falling and build up momentum.

There was a story about a while baack about someone who tried a similar demonstration with window bars, and fell to his death.

Funny thing about tempered safety glass. It will often take the force of a body hit, but will shatter to bits at the touch of something hard, like a diamond ring.

“Safety” being relative, of course.

Hint: not all the wild stories about mothers giving infants names of bodily functions or hospital jargon they overhear in the hospital are Snopes legends.

Most are, according to the Freakonoics authors, who put out a bounty for evidence of those like “lemonjello,” etc.

It’s always someone who knows someone who worked at the hospital. (These hospital folks are pulling your leg).

That's the kind of test I like, it shows (misplaced) faith in one's work. Better the builder than his clients. It's not likely he'll ever build a substandard restraint again.

Sorry to disappoint you Beelzebubba, but it's true. It is also my daughter who works directly there - this isn't some 3rd hand story. My wife volunteers at the same hospital, and has confirmed it.

Letsee....just from the past month...

There was a boy named "Sexy Lover." If it was a girl, the mother said she was going to name her "Lover Sexy." I cannot believe there is not some sort of rule or law against this, because to me it seems like tangential child abuse, but what do I know. Then there was "La - A." It is pronounced "LaDasha" but they decided to get creative on the birth certificate.

The hospital labels the bassinets by letter (A, B, etc). The mother saw "Baby A" and "Baby B" labels there, so she named her twins "BaybyahA and "BaybyahB."

I don't want to mention the worst one, because it is simply in bad taste to bring it up here.

Honestly, I don't know what these people are thinking. It is very sad, however, when my daughter describes the parents. In many cases, the father is never present. If he is, very rarely are the parents married. The mothers treat the children like puppies or toys, and think it is all one big game.

Good stories. Like all the others.

Let me know when there is documentary evidence, like in a public record.

These windows should have been able to take this jolt against them. Were these windows the thin single/double pane windows you would find in a home? Something does not seem right in this story, that the windows should have broke that easily?
