We've known about this unofficially since March, but it's official now - New Line, MGM, and Warner Brothers have announced that Peter Jackson's HOBBIT films are titled THE HOBBIT: AN UNEXPECTED JOURNEY, to be released December 14, 2012, and THE HOBBIT: THERE AND BACK AGAIN, to be released December 13, 2013.

I want to play one of the many fat innkeepers. LOL
The books were ok but I never could get more than a few minutes into any of the movies.

Tom Bombadillo
Hey dol! merry dol! ring a dong dillo!
Ring a dong! hop along! fal lal the willow!
Tom Bom, jolly Tom, Tom Bombadillo!
Hey! Come merry dol! derry dol! My darling!
Light goes the weather-wind and the feathered starling.
Down along under Hill, shining in the sunlight,
Waiting on the doorstep for the cold starlight,
There my pretty lady is, River-woman’s daughter,
Slender as the willow-wand, clearer than the water
Old Tom Bombadil water-lilies bringing
Comes hopping home again. Can you hear him singing?
Hey! Come merry dol! derry dol! and merry-o,
Goldberry, Goldberry, merry yellow berry-o!
Poor old Willow-man, you tuck your roots away!
Tom’s in a hurry now. Evening will follow day.
Tom’s going home again water-lilies bringing.
Hey! come derry dol! Can you hear me singing?
Hop along, my little friends, up the Withywindle!
Tom’s going on ahead candles for to kindle.
Down west sinks the Sun: soon you will be groping.
When the night-shadows fall, then the door will open,
Out of the window-panes light will twinkle yellow.
Fear no alder black! Heed no hoary willow!
Fear neither root nor bough! Tom goes on before you.
Hey now! merry dol! We’ll be waiting for you!
Hey! Come derry dol! Hop along, my hearties!
Hobbits! Ponies all! We are fond of parties.
Now let the fun begin! Let us sing together!
~As sung by Tom Bombadil (The Fellowship of the Ring - Book 1, Ch. 6 “The Old Forest”)
Now let the song begin! Let us sing together
Of sun, stars, moon and mist, rain and cloudy weather,
Light on the budding leaf, dew on the heather,
Reeds by the shady pool, lilies on the water:
Old Tom Bombadil and the River-daughter!
~As sung by Goldberry (The Fellowship of the Ring - Book 1, Ch. 6 “The Old Forest”)
Ho! Tom Bombadil, Tom Bombadillo!
By water, wood and hill, by reed and willow,
By fire, sun and moon, harken now and hear us!
Come, Tom Bombadil, for our need is near us!
~As sung by Frodo Baggins, taught to him by Tom Bombadil (The Fellowship of the Ring - Book 1, Ch. 8 “Fog on the Barrow-

Robert Reich
Randal from the Clerks movies isn’t going to be pleased when Elias comes into work with a spring in his step over this news. “There is only one return, and that’s of the Jedi!”
Drink!
Or is that only for "unexpected" economic news?
ROFLMAO!
In Hollywood, you can see smog any time you like.
Have no idea if this is still the idea, but originally, THE HOBBIT novel would be the first movie, and the second would be a "new" movie made up of material pulled from other Tolkien sources as a bridge between THE HOBBIT and LOTR.
Again, may have changed, but that was the original plan.
Are they still re-releasing the three LOTR movies this year in a limited run?
Unless off visiting granny in Lorien, Arwen would have been resident in Rivendell when Bilbo came through.
Since hobbits in Rivendell would have been highly uncommon, one can assume he would at least have met Arwen and her brothers.
Orlando Bloom is coming back as Legolas, even though he isn’t in the books, and Ian will reprise his role as Gandalf and I also think the rest of the Hobbits will make cameos in this as well.

Incidentally, what is a hobbit?
Someone told me it was a short person with hairy feet that
liked rings.
It sounded too much like my ex-wife, so I never saw the movie.
Well yah but since they gave all of Glorfindel’s heroics to Arwen in the movie I was kind of hoping to see some of him in The Hobbit. I won’t hold my breath though.
‘may have changed, but that was the original plan.’
It has changed, but some contemporaneous scenes from the LOTR appendices are being included, such as meetings of The White Council, and the fight against the Necromancer will be included. Since Orlando Bloom played a Wood Elf unnamed in The Hobbit, he will be there, along with Galadriel, Elrond, and Saruman at the White Council. Frodo and Old Bilbo will have cameos in a framing story.
‘Are they still re-releasing the three LOTR movies this year in a limited run?;
Yes, in about a week.
Awesome-thanks. Cannot believe how time flies.
