The Austin Parks Foundation has canceled tonight’s showing of Napoleon Dynamite at Republic Square because of complaints about an offensive word in the movie.

According to an email the foundation sent out:

“The Austin Parks Foundation is canceling tonight’s (Wed, 5/25) showing of Napoleon Dynamite at Republic Square. A new movie will be shown next month. A number of people contacted us objecting to a word used by actors in the movie. We didn’t recall that this word was used and we did not mean to offend anyone. Our apologies for this as well as for the last minute cancellation.”

So what is this offensive word? Executive director Charlie McCabe won’t say. But some of the complaints came from the Austin Mayor’s Committee for People with Disabilities, he said.

Yeah, I lived in Austin in the early ‘70s - 80s and it was a great city to be in. I lived downtown on Congress Ave.

Been gone for more than 20yrs now, and my friends tell me, too many folks from CA moved there. They say it will be the SanFran of the south soon.

Go figure. CA freaks strike again.

I'll never move back to Austin. However, Shiner though, is another story.

100% agreed. I lived there for 10 years ... left in '97. I don't think I'd ever move back there. If I did, it'd have to be in the burbs. Definitely the SF of the south. Beautiful country, weird people. And the traffic ..... ugh.

Yeah, Austin was my second home for many years after country girl went to town. I too lived on S. Congress, then 45th St. area. Loved it. But it’s to expensive now like every place liberals control. Finally went back home in the Hill Country to my very small conservative Germany community. Having a blast out here in the hills.

If you hear detonation or engine knock in your vehicle, be sure to mentally challenge your ignition timing before damage occurs.

They did the right thing. To inflict that movie upon an unsuspecting public would be an act of torture.

31 years...it’s now a “home” way from my new home. Still pay rent and utilities there :^).

A good friend who came to the area first in 1987 lives just north of Austin in Williamson County. He refuses to consider living anywhere in Travis.

It’s not hard to understand why liberals would object to the use of the word retarded.......

...given that fully 99% of the Obama agenda is retarded.
