I just caught a story on WFAA-TV News about the Westboro loons coming to Dallas on Sunday June 5, 2011 from 6:15 PM to 7:00 PM. The site of their event is the American Airlines Center, timed to occur just prior to Game 3 of the NBA Finals between the Miami Heat and the Dallas Mavericks.
Their claim is:
WBC will picket the NBA game between the Dallas Mavericks and the Miami Heat to warn this nation that they need to tear down their idols and worship only the true God, Jesus Christ. The people of Doomed america [sic] set up these spoiled, rebellious basketball players and other celebrities as little gods that they emulate then curse the real God, Jesus Christ because He does not supprt [sic] their vile sins.
Like the ancient Israelites, this nation has turned their collective back on the the Lord their God and refused to obey. The prefer to worship their powerless idols and pay false prophets to lie to them. They would rather live like these filthy celebrities by fornicating, divorcing & remarrying, and supporting fag-filth than to hear about God's standards - to the peril of their never-dying souls. Nevertheless, WBC will kindly warn them to flee the wrath to come by repenting and obeying. Doomed americans [sic] cannot continue to live for the devil then expect to get to heaven. Hell and damnation awaits these idolatrous fools.
I think the Mavericks and the whole region learned humility (and a dose of lowered expectations) after the debacle of five years ago and the epic meltdown in Game 3 against Miami. At least the curse of Mayor Laura Miller ("Hey...let's plan the parade route!") is gone.
I presume God hates Cricket also, everybody else does.

No offense taken and no hoping is needed for that kind of weather. This is Dallas and it being June, blazing sunshine and searing temperatures are a given.
But we make up for it with temperatures in the teens, ice storms and howling winds in February as Jerry Jones knows all too well.

Heat are cocky..Wade is alright but LeBron, I NEVER want him to win anything so yeah, rooting for the Mavs, heck all Laker fans here in LA are rooting for the Mavs. you guys beat us because you were the better team. I’d love to see Dirk win a ring he is an amazing basketball player and that whole “He’s soft” persona is totally out the window now

We gave up our season seats at the Forum (sitting right across from Chick Hearn) right after Jerry West retired. Good timing, as it turned out. They weren’t good again until Magic joined the team 5 years later.

A team owned by Mark Cuban vs. the egotists of the Miami Heat - I don’t care much for it either. Fortunately, there’s the Stanley Cup finals.
There are two sports moments that I think will be long-lasting memories for those of us here in flyover country.
1). Dirk's final shot using his injured hand to beat the Heat in Game 2 last night.
2). Rangers pitcher Neftali Feliz striking out A-Rod (not exactly a fan favorite hereabouts) in Game 6 of the 2010 ALCS to claim the pennant over the Yankees.
I agree that Cuban is a despicable, anti-American leftist. I wish the success that the Mavericks have enjoyed under his ownership would have occurred when a descent guy like Don Carter had the team.
