Yet another teacher in Texas has been jailed for having sex with one of her students.
Christina McCann is the fourth teacher from the Lone Star state to be locked up in recent weeks for illegal sexual activity with a student. The 39-year-old is alleged to have had sex with an 18-year-old student she was chaperoning during a conference for future business leaders.
Investigators in Austin,Texas claim McCann had been drinking with some of the six students she was in charge of during a competition organised by the Distributive Education Clubs of America. Detectives believe McCann was drinking alcohol with the students when one of them returned to her hotel room and a sexual encounter took place. The incident took place in February while McCann and her students were staying at a hotel in Fort Worth.

The Distributive Education Clubs of America seeks to prepare students to become leaders and entrepreneurs in marketing, finance and hospitality. Police began investigating McCann after a tip off and she resigned from her job as a marketing teacher at the High School last month.
A warrant was issued for her arrest last week and McCann turned herself in on Monday. She was charged with an improper relationship between educator and student. Bail was set at $10,000. McCann follows three other Texas teachers who are all facing jail after being charged with having sex with their students. Oh please,, the student had power over the TEACHER. If she ever stops giving out the sugar, he can threathen to make a phone call that gets her arrested. And sice when does a female teacher need to THREATEN a normal red blooded 18 year old male? If he says no, there are 10 more ready to step up.

In Texas it is written into the law prohibiting teachers from having sexual relations with students. It has not been “tested” to the higher courts, so I understand your argument.
I am just saying that currently THAT is against the law in TX.
The issue isn't with whether the behavior is wrong. The issue is with the punishment. When the participants are both adults, the punishment for the teacher should be firing, not prison.

It does put a spotlight on the law. But you are right about potential favoritism. But that can happen in college as well with only academic and/or job repercussions.
I think it is a bubble legislators did not take into consideration.

I can understand her getting fired, but JAIL? The student is an adult. This is getting ridiculous that the law has to be involved. The school should just fire the teacher for fraternization. Where were these teachers when I was in school. Anyone over 30 were RIPPED OFF!!!! lol.
