Looking for something else, I stumbled on this ... took a few questions and realized ... I'd never get into high school.

And if this is any reflection ... how'd I get there in the first place ?

enjoy, all you fathers that got this far and have no idea how we did it.

You don't go into eighth grade knowing this stuff, it's what you learn once you get there.

I was already taking beginning algebra, which is what a lot of the stuff mentioned is, in the seventh grade!

I take it that you use no math skills at work to keep your skills honed.
Most trade skills require math skills.

Wow. I think the organizers have to go back to school.

For the heck of it, I took the first test, got 20/20 and received a grade of 92!!!

It’s all in your head still....All you’d have to do is brush up a bit for a few hrs and you’d pass 8th grade. : ~ )

btw - I think about 40% of the 8th graders would fail.

A lot of the beginning math in that group are things we introduce to our kids in fourth grade. They've been working on some of these concepts for several years by eighth grade.

That makes it easier to get through the new stuff ffurther on down that list.

They organize math differently now.. they “section” it so in each grade they learn a tiny bit of algebra and geometry .. but the time they hit 8th grade they are ready to put it all together ..

I'm 63 and I guess if I DID spend some time "brushing up", I'd probably pass, but it was that first glance/attempt that showed me new words and phrases.

I learned LCD, Least Common Denominator not ... whatever it is now.

Actually, I just retired as a truck driver and my job was to make a lot of money and get no sleep, have no life, don't kill you and don't get killed.

The hardest and most demanding part of my job was staying awake and maintaining health.

(Ever get the flu with 102 temp. 600 miles from home, no time nor means to go to a doctor/ER, living in a 3' x 6' bunk?)

Then you must be well skilled at time/speed/distance problems.
You've got the skills, you just don't realize it.
And now you get to concentrate on the other things you missed out on while driving.

I'll take your word for it on that one. That's one trade I never got into.
About the only tool making I got into was making some tool into a hammer when one wasn't at hand. {;^)

Correct! That was the first (and only) question I checked. One thing for sure, math and science tests have been severely dumbed down over the past decades. All in the name of “social justice”, you know. /s

Just yesterday evening my neighbor was standing there watching me beat a battery cable connector onto my car battery with a pair of vise grips. He says "you want a hammer?" I said "I already have one..."
